Here's a tip. If ever you want to get a lot of comments, then intentionally submit a photo that does not conform in some obvious way with the challenge description. I did this for Stopped Motion II. I believe that most people, if they were to read the notes that I provided with the entry, when these become available after the voting ends, would be understanding and forgiving of my choice.

But let me tell you, how quick people are to tell you that you didn't conform to the rules! Even when you declare your awareness of the same in your title! Typically these kind of comments are not at all gentle or helpful, rather, the tone is often curt and judgemental.

I notice too that my more typical "ambitious failure" entries and occasional high scoring entries are remarkably free of any comments by many of these same quick-draw fingerpointer commentators.

I know somewhere it says that whenever you give a '3' or less you should leave an explanation, so if this is the reason for what I am seeing, I suppose it is more understandable.

In defense of the goodness of humanity, let me add that the exceptions are, well, exceptional. About 10% of the commenters have managed to see past the very obvious "error" in the entry, and have left quite insightful and helpful remarks about the photograph.

I think this is exactly the point. I always try to comment on my top and bottom rated photos. The bottom rated ones so the photographer knows why I gave them low marks. I don't thend to give 3 or less though. Normally low is 4 or 5

To judge is easy, to consider harder, but to act with consideration...
Alas, best we can do is to avoid the lynching, David.

I've got 16 comments telling my that my shot was too easy to take and thus not worth a high score.

I sort of feel like suggesting that all these magnificent photographers try it first...

Yeah, but has anyone asked "What were you thinking?" :-)
