Art is my "kiss". It's what makes me dream, it's what makes me sing. Any form of art: literature, sketching/painting, photography, music, etc. The Arts have given ME a dream, for my life.
What's your passion?
What gets you through the day-to-day dribble and makes you happy?
If photography is your full time job, then does it still inspire you? If not, what else do you aspire to do/be?

Dance~ Turn the music up and let the frustrations flow right out.
Photography calms the soul. I am in my own little world when I have the camera in hand.
Family and friends~makes me smile and love waking up in the morning.

My passion is learning more and more about the world around me through the viewfinder of my little camera. Learning more about photography inspires me to see the world in a new light, whether or not that transfers over into the images I capture.
Hope and joy get me through the day-to-day dribble...hope for things to come in the future, the joy of what I experience in the present.
I already have the best career in the world, and no, photography is not my day job. I work with kids, so just being around them brings me some of that hope and joy I mentioned above, just like spending time with my own children does. My only aspirations beyond this point are to travel more often, to surround myself with people who share the same passions and joys in life, and to allow myself to live in the moment more often. I have had a pretty good 34 years so far, but I want to make the next 50 or 60 REALLY count. :o) |

getting through day-to-day without dribbling
finishing a project at work
beautiful things (buildings, alfas and most stuff italian, wife, smeg fridges, red pandas, kirsten dunst)
taking pictures of beautiful things
on the other end of the scale is getting my pictures of beautiful things rotten scores, but this is not the forum for that.

Actually life and seeing the world that was once mundane, now filled with life & color in a new way - through the viewfinder.

The joy of life itself: A new day everyday, good music, good coffee, personal peace with myself and a soulmate to share it with.

Not my full-time job, but rather my full-time passion, and someday following my dreams with it.
Yup. Guess that about sums it up. Do I need a shrink or WHAT???

What's your passion? What gets you through the day-to-day dribble and makes you happy?
Simple - life. I have been blessed with family, decent health and enough resources to be comfortable. I wake up everyday and look forward to the simple things; meeting friends for coffee, going to a game with my sons, a play with my wife, and all the low key interactions with people. On the quiet side I enjoy being alone taking pictures, wandering the town and countryside, communing with nature, or just sitting on a rainy day reading a book.
On the downside I guess I have to admit that I find it hard today to get through a day without being outspoken about our political situation, but we will not go there today. You asked about happiness and although it would be called passionate it does not make me happy. |

Listening to good music, looking at beautiful things, being alone somewhere and just thinking or dreaming or walking, good conversation over a good meal, making something beautiful, watching the fog come in, or the waves, or both, spending time alone with my husband. I don't know if these are "passions", but they sure are what I like best in life. |

How deeply philosophical :-) Thanks to all who posted, and to those who posted regarding family, friends, spirituality, I should remit for my own sake that Faith and Family are numero uno on my list of passions.
Personally, and not trying to start a revolt, I feel that "Passions of the Christ" is a brilliant title and is part of the reason I've been thinking about life and love so much this week.
Again, thanks DPC'ers for posting. |

Hiking.
Trudging 10 miles and up 5,000 feet to get to a mountain peak, just to see the view from the top, then watching an eagle sore below you. Hiking along a creek miles from any road seeing things most people never will. Drinking from a natural spring or soaking in a natural hot spring. Spending the night under the stars, miles from any unnatural light source. Hiking under a full moon. Crossing the Grand Canyon, just because it's there. Exploring 1000 year old indian ruins. Taking the path less traveled, just to see where it goes.

"What's your passion?"
My wife and child bring more than simple joy to my life. They inspire me to be better in all aspects of my life. My wife always is there to support me in all I do and she is a wonderful person to be around. My little girl brings a smile to my face every time she learns something new. If you want to see life in the way that most adults have forgot, follow a young child around and take in all of the simple things they find fascinating. Not only could this help your photography but it will help you see all of the wonderful things you take for granted that are present in every day life.
Photography is my second passion. I like to draw and create things with my hands, but I am also very impatient. Photography seemed like a logical solution to my dilemma. Capturing moments is my first priority when taking pictures. To get that perfect facial expression or to catch the sun at that perfect moment when the light hits everything just right. For my work it is a simple every day thing.(More about that latter.)For this web site, my taking images is just to keep me at it. Having a challenge to go off of every week keeps me thinking and looking at my surroundings.
"What gets you through the day-to-day dribble and makes you happy?"
Again my wife and child for the reasons listed above and more. Believe me my job can be full of day-to-day dribble. And in most cases this site helps me through all of them. Whether there is funny and crazy things in the forums, or more information than I would ever want to know about with every new digital thing comming out. The challenges are what really help me out though. It gives me a chance and an excuse to do something different and to try new things. I am not here to grow as a photographer so much as I am here to be able to take on a task and create an image that I like and meets the given criteria. Don't get me wrong, I have learned some things from this website that have helped me out. This is just not my main goal here. I am sure I will never win a ribbon because my images are usually not the perfect stock style images. But this in no way keeps me away from being able to take on challenges every week with the hopes of at least a few comments telling me why the image was not liked. It is always great to get another persons point of view.
You know, in that respect,("It is always great to get another persons point of view.") this site has changed me alot. At first I couldn't believe that someone on this site would not like at least the technical aspects of my images. How could they give a 1 or a 2 just for the content. But then I realized that every one here comes from a different place in life and that is what makes photography so great. Different eyes see different things and it is interesting to try to see my images through their eyes.
"If photography is your full time job, then does it still inspire you? If not, what else do you aspire to do/be?"
Photography is my full time job. What I take pictures of can get very boring at times. The set ups for the most part are the same. The subjects are all similar. Some might say that it would be great to get to see the things I get to see and handel. And it is cool to see it all. But taking images of them can get fairly boring at times.
As far as for inspiration, again the site helps me with that alot. Gets the creative juices flowing.
My daughter, again, has also been a great inspiration to my photography. Whether just taking candid shots of her, or following her around and seeing the world for the first time again trough her eyes. It is amazing to see things that she finds so fascinating.
Another inspiration is just the areas that surround me where I live. The scenic views are wonderful. I try very hard to not take any of it for granted. I am probably one of a dozen or so people in the area that actually stop and watch every sunrise and sunset, though to most they all look the same. My attention is always drawn to every time the light hits the mountains or fields when filtering through the clouds and it stops me in my tracks. I don't photograph many of these opportunities right now. Mostly because I don't always have a camera with me. But each moment is still worth my time to stop, take it in and enjoy it while it lasts.
If anyone actually reads all of this, sorry for rambling on for so long.

So, you're a newly-wed.
Reminds me of the old joke.
Guy in a bar. Orders a drink. Downs it, then takes out a photo of a woman from his breast pocket. Orders another drink. Downs it and takes out the photo again. He does this a few times. The barman is impressed and says, "you must really love that woman". The guy replies, "Hell, no. She's the wife. When I drink enough to fancy her, I go home". |

In this order:
1) My husband and my sister. They are, quite simply, the best people in my universe
2) The rest of my family and my friends - they make my world go around
Spending time with these people is the crux of my happiness. I can't tell you more without becoming a sappy, soppy old so-and-so!
3) Travelling
Being able to travel around the UK and the world makes me feel alive. It excites me, opens my eyes, gives me experiences I could never have if I sat at home all my life. I absolutely adore travelling. I also enjoy photography best when travelling.
4) Being in control of my life
My husband and I have chosen the self-employed route which means we don't have as much financial security as we once did but means we can find a life-work balance that's better for us. We both believe in working to live, not living to work and working for ourselves allows us to make that a reality.
5) My relatively good health
Whilst I'm not in great health for my age a bit of pain (mainly from arthritis) and other ongoing but similarly tenable problems are something I can live with, especially when I look at what so many others have to contend with.
6) The fact that I can make a positive difference
In small ways, certainly, but in ways that are important to me.
Please consider helping me with number 6 by purchasing a print from my DSWF collection in aid of wildlife conservation. If a print doesn't appeal to you, perhaps you can contribute by passing on the link. Click on the link to my prints, below.

My dogs inspire my dreams . . .
I Train my dogs for competition hunting and obedience, I look at it as the ultimate communication challenge. Convey to another living being that doing something is good for both of us and that we will both havde a reward.
I use my photography to fix this communication dycotomy. animal and human comminicating and trying to understand each other. I have my wants he has his needs. sometime it's a battle of the wills. Sometime it's harmony.
Dogs are animals but have been domesticated over several centuries. we humans have a responsability over them since we have taken there independance. Despite all this we have not mastered a way to understand each other. it is unfortunate that some canine may not enter in a communication exchange in their lives.
Be a responsible pet owner
Have your pet sterilized
Go to school with your pet
Give your pet a job
