Elevating the "flame war" will get no one anywhere. Please, if you post comments on the shots she steals, maintain decorum. You do not want the Yafro users coming over here and trashing our forums and photos.
I've e-mailed the site and asked that they remove the new account she has created, since she is violating their ToS. If she keeps getting her accounts removed, she'll eventually stop coming here to steal.

There is no place to email the person that put the photo up. NOW, I've found that he has it posted on another site too!!

Here's the Other LINK!

Doug,

Koste's email address: uuja@yahoo.com

Have fun passing on your thoughts :)

Darren

How is that Yahoo profile offline? Did someone complain to Yahoo? That's seriously impressive... someone stole some photos from me a few months ago and posted them on a Yahoo group as their own. It took Yahoo over a week to email me back after I sent countless emails to them asking for the photos to be removed.

my love in red shot was posted there unmodified so I dont know what this guys is talking about.
He should be shot!

The people that modify these images don't seem to know (or want to know) if the image that is submitted to them is the property of the sumbitter... pretty weird relationship.

What happens is that people upload regular shots and these guys smear them all up in photoshop and then post them in their own portfolios. They don't know that what these people are posting aren't their own shots.

Just spent some time looking at that website...it seems that its a whole culture of people stealing/modifiyng other peoples works.

yeah gil, they seem to think that copyrights mean nothing to them. that they can do whatever they want to your image, and even call it their own. its crazy

I'd like to know exactly was said to her, maybe she was acting in good faith? and believed the pictures were owned by the submitter?. I have already said I don't agree with what is going on over there and have also said nobody will win if members from here (however wronged) start getting heavy handed on other sites.

I for one will blame the 'flamers' (or whatever you want them called) if their perceived vindiction by way of poor netiquette creates problems for this site.

Jeez, this isn't even in the rant forum

Agreed.

I think we all agree that image theft is deplorable and that acting as a Photoshop Hack is wrong.

Lets not stoop and cause a war of words. Say your piece in a simple e-mail (be nice) and let it be. This kind of activity (the theft) honestly can't be stopped and ranting about it will only fuel the fire.

by clicking on the link just below each pic that marks the pic as containing "adult content" the site suggests that the Admins will look into the submissions.
I wonder if the admins of the site will have any ethics...
09/14/2004 05:34:49 PM · #94
*snicker* They are probably just happy that all this has given their site free publicity ;)
09/14/2004 05:37:12 PM · #95
well I agree that fueling the fire is not a good thing...but it's not a good thing to have to "beg" someone to stop using my work.
09/14/2004 05:40:34 PM · #96
I've come to realise that there are tons of stollen shots on that site, I've seen stuff from DPC and from PBASE.

Katie04 seems to be the one who's posted most of the "nudes". So I guess this battle can't be won.

You don't need to beg Gil, you just need to explain the image belongs to you and TELL them it should be removed. I think that communication should be to the site administrators (or whatever they call themselves) and outside of the public domain. Nobody needs to publicly 'have a go' at the wrongdoers (what goes around comes around). That said, theft is theft and there are ways, better ways to exact justice (and much more effective).

I've said earlier that on the web it is easy to missconstrue the written word and I believe this could easily cause as much harm to dpc as it will do to the offenders.

The point is is these photos are obviously stolen.

None of the photos has credit given to the original photographer.

I've had several photos taken illegally over the course of the last 10 years, and I've found that the BEST and probably the ONLY solution is to POLITELY tell the theif that it is a copyrighted image, and POLITELY request that they either remove the image, or post credit to the photographer (I ALWAYS ask for credit and a link to my website/email). Most people do not understand copyright laws. Or think that they do not have to give credit. Also, most people will respond to your request POLITELY and most likely will apoligize and correct the situation immediately.

The only other solution to this situation is to do this to all of your images.

It's a maddening thing to have an image stolen, but being really cool about it generally works.

From the lawbooks on copyright:

"In a case where the copyright owner sustains the burden of proving, and the court finds, that infringement was committed willfully, the court in its discretion may increase the award of statutory damages to a sum of not more than $150,000."

Also, all copyright cases are federal cases.

If the ISP doesn't remove all images, make sure your pictures are registered with the copyright office and consult an IP attorney!

These ARE all registered with the copyright office, aren't they?
09/14/2004 05:50:21 PM · #100
How about "Remove the pic or I will be consulting my attorney."

Edit:

I think you have to 'apply' for a copyright, don't you? Also think I read somewhere that it's $25 a pop...?

...maybe I'm thinking of something else, though.
