I looked on eBay for the Canon EFS 18-55mm (300D kit lens) but didn't see any. I have one but I never use it and since it's just collecting dust, I'm thinking of getting rid of it. Can ya'll recommend a fair selling price? Thanks!

I think it adds about $100 CDN to the kit price. You probably won't get that much but who knows. Also I think it may even fit the new 20D. That's supposed to have the EFS-mount too.

There are a few on ebay for $80-$100.

Really? I did a search but didn't find any. I did think that was odd as I can't be the only one wanting to unload that lens.

If you put EFS that may be the problem as I think it's writted EF-S. I just left that out completely and put in canon 18-55 lens. Most of the results are Rebel + Lens, but if you look thru them some are the lens on its own.

Do you already have another lens that covers down to 18mm? If not I would hold on to it in case you would need it for interior shots or something at least until you got a better lens that covers the 18mm range.

If you already have a lens that covers the 18mm range I would off load it too. Right now I only have other lenses that go down to 28mm so I am hanging on to mine.

Just my 2 cents.

I'd make absolutely certain you don't want it. Roughly 90 bucks isn't much money (in the photography world anyway) and it's a sharp lens between f8 and f11. The wide angle can be useful from time to time. Unless you already have this range covered, might want to hang onto it.

I don't use mine, either ... but I'm keepin it till I can replace the 18mm. (the 28mm 2.8 prime i haven't isn't exactly wide angle on the rebel).

Yeah, I know what you mean Bill. I just don't do much photography that requires a wide angle. I use my 50mm 1.8 quite a bit and my Tamron 28-105 (which I'm upgrading 'cuz it sucks). About the only reason I'm iffy about getting rid of the EFS is the fact that it came as part of the 300D kit - resale down the road, ya know?

I can't believe you don't use it. I use mine all the time.

What do you have that you are making this one sit in the closet?

I just don't like it - it bugs me LOL

Just for curiosity's sake, what are some pics that you have taken with yours? Can you post some samples along with specs? I'm all for giving the little lens another chance before I ditch it. Thanks!!

I have not used my EF-S 18-55 kit lens since getting a Canon EF 28-135 IS lens. I'm planning on breaking it out next week though. I'm going on vacation and don't want to lug a heavy lens around.

I don't have any specs. on any of these. I just do alot of messing with my settings(aperture, white balance, and shutter speed) when shooting. I don't take 2 pictures alike. I do that with all my lenses. Here are some shots I took with the lens.

Everyone seems to complain about the 18-55.. May I ask technical issues people have with the lens?

Seems everyone's going off a lot of hearsay to me..

I actually like the 18-55 quite a bit. Other than not being that fast of a lens, it's pretty decent IMO. I admit that I don't use it much unless I need the extra wide angle but I think for the $100 it's the best lens for the money (excluding the 50mm f/1.8 Prim of course).

It is kind of soft but USM usually works well with this lens.

Again, just my 2 cents worth.

Oh yeah, there's alot of that about just about any lens! But hey, I'm not trying to say you can't get good results with the 18-55; Just look at some of Sonifo's work using it (thanks for posting those!). It's just a personal preference as far as I'm concerned. Not trying to ruffle anybody's feathers! :-D Big smile - see!!

Sorry Ellen, I wasn't aiming my comments at you - if you want to sell it, more power to ya. :-)

Just wanted to even up the balance of people saying it's awful with me saying 'in what way?'.

I'm with you, Bill, for the price and the odd pic it's not bad.
