So I am left with my Kodak 6440 for now. I couldn't get decent shots from the FZ20; my husband actually liked my Kodak 10 times better. I know it is a camera you have to grow into and learn to use, but I couldn't even get decent outside shots in daytime. Perhaps it was a defective one, I don't know. Circuit CIty was extremely difficult to deal with, but at least it is over. But I am so sad tonight, now!

Wow. That's surprising. Bummer of an experience.

I'm speechless... what was the problem? Did you try different focusing and metering modes? Could you post any examples? I'm gutted for you... I was so excited for you!

urgh,

I was really pleased to see you as the first FZ20 owner on dpc, and naturally this stoked the fires of my excitement of getting one.

I've only had my little FZ2 for a few weeks and there was a little transition time coming from my Oly c310 (I still use the Oly for macro work), but overall I'm really pleased with it - your bad experience has come as a bit of a shock.

As Bob said, any chance that we can see some examples?

Hopefully it's just a one off issue, feel really sorry for you though *hugs*

Wow, that's a shame. I don't know how long you had your camera, but it took me a good month before I got used to the camera and could take half decent photos outdoors because everything was so new to me.

Hope you have a better experience with your next camera.

That's awful Kylie... but maybe it's fate or karma or something. You'll get something better in no time!!!! ;o)

Oh dear. I was thinking of having a closer look at the FZ20 next time I go into the city (because I definitely need a better camera).

It sucks that your new camera didn't work out - sorry about that, Kylie. But like others have mentioned maybe you'll end up with an even better one! Good luck to you :-)

Apparently there has been a recall, or something like that. The FZ20 is not on the web site for Circuit City, BestBut, or Ritz. At the Panasonic you can find dealers in your area that supposedly have it. They listed Ritz and Circuit City stores near me. The guy at Ritz said it hasn't come in yet and they don't know when it will. At Circuit City a clerk looked it up on their inventory system and said, twice, "We don't sell that camera anymore." There is a "conspiracy theory" thread at DPReview's Panasonic Talk forum.

What a bummer. I was looking forward to that camera and had been chatting it up here and elsewhere. Woe is me.

Hi everyone. I don't have any pics to post, and I am going to go check out the story on the recall that Coolhar posted. I will probably get the Kodak 7590 around Christastime. That had been my second choice and it is looking pretty good at this point.

I tried just about setting and combination of settings on the FZ20 and also tested various "no brainer" shots on "auto". None were up to the quality of my lowly little Kodak point-n-shoot. My husband said he was shocked at the poor quality and thought the Kodak was much better. I felt that it was me at first, but after days of experimenting, I came to the conclusion it was either a defective one or just not useable in my hands at least. Thanks for all the sympathetic postings. I will be interested in seeing what future owners have to say.

Dear Kylie, Just got back from 4 days of camping and opened this thread to read. I'm so sorry your new FZ20 didn't work out! Perhaps it was a lemon. Could you post some of the pics you took with it just so we can see what was happening.

So far, I'm still hoping to get the FZ20 but it will be closer to Christmas. So many times when something new is released the first batch of them still have a few bugs that need to be worked out.

It makes me sad that the FZ20 didn't work out for you.

Hope you find one you like that works well for you.

Hi, Sammie. I didn't keep any pics. I have been reading the fourm posts at dpreview and maybe it was a bad release. My husband always tells me not to be the first one to buy something!

This happens so many times with new things - the first batch of them isn't quite right. It seems like no matter how much testing is done it is new quite enough to get all the bugs worked out.

What was the main problem with the FZ20? Did it have trouble focusing or was the color bad or what?

Man! I missed this thread first time around... that really SUCKS! I'd be writing emails to Panasonic stat.. myself.. but you're probably just wanting to be rid of the whole experience.

:(

I hope you fare much better with the new Kodak when you get it.. I was so looking forward to seeing your stuff with the new toy.

Keep on shooting! :)

The focusing was terrible and the noise was worse than I had expected.

Yes, I do just want it behind me, I guess. The hardest part will be waiting to get the Kodak around Christmas. This time I am going to wait for others to be the first!!!!

Kylie, have you looked at the Konica-Minolta A2, or is that too expensive?
