Those darn hurricanes...always causing trouble. ;o)

Great shot Harrison. I'm glad you and your family are safe...that's the important thing, challenge or not! :o)

OK, since only a select few comment, the best comment made today gets a gmail account.

Haha, already got a gmail account but I'll comment anyway.

I like the sky in the photo you posted for sure. I think some of the trees and bushes around the two main tress clutter the photo. You could try cloning them out or, if possible, reshoot from a lower angle and closer to the two trees. The lower angle would probably give you better leading lines from the trunks to the tops of the trees and steer the photo away from being more or less a snapshot.

I like the silhouette and feel it was the right choice. The brightness behind the trees makes for a cool effect; I am assuming you shot with the sun directly behind the trees? I'd also be curious to see a version with the sun behind or to the side of the photographer.

Not sure if you did any of this already but if you wanted, you might be able to make the sky a bit more dramatic if you burn the edges a bit. Take a look at heida's recent blue ribbon //www.dpchallenge.com/image.php?IMAGE_ID=86800

I'm not sure it would really fit into a travel guide. However, I do like the photo and it certainly represents Florida right now so I would probably have given it a 4 for the current photo and maybe a 6/7 with a lower angle and with a slightly more dramatic sky.

Thanks for sharing!

thanks, i cant reshoot because the hurricane is gone, but there is another that might hit this weekend, so maybe i will. the brightness behind the trees is actually USM with some weird settings. Currently im working on my dodging/burning skills so i can do stuff like heida does. thanks for the comment.

During Ivan, ill try and get someone to drive me around, so i dont have to walk during the storm to try and take pics with my camera in a bag.

Haha.. I don't know Florida weather, but I imagine there will be another non-hurricane day with wind and similar looking sky... :)
