Kosta's link to The Big Cats and faidoi's thread San Francisco Zoo inspired me to make the drive down to DC and shoot some tigercubs. They were a delight to watch as they romped and wrestled just as you would expect a litter of kittens to do, including climbing all over their mom when she was trying to rest. The lighting conditions were taxing so I was forced to shoot at higher ISO and slower shutter speeds than I would have liked.

Shameless bump for my tigercub shots. I know they are not as good as pitsaman's POTM winner but I'd love some comments and/or critique please.

did you have a monopod, or were you shooting handheld?

coolhar, very nice captures...I especially like 1 and 3 as well. The expression on the Mama's face in the first one is great! She almost looks startled!

Also, great shot pitsaman...and congrats!

Thanks for your comment skiprow. Handheld. I have a tripod but didn't take it with me that day as I was unsure if they were allowed in the zoo. I saw a couple of other photogs using them so next time mine goes along.

As for your suggestion on cropping to the mother's face, I don't think it would work. Would be to small and very pixelated. This camera's max res is 1856x1392 and that shot was already cropped to something like 975x? before being downsized to 640 for upload to dpc portfolio. Thanx for looking at them.
