I just wanted to share a shot that I feel
was one of the lucky ones regarding lighting,
and hopefully someone else will remember to try this:

OK, it's a family snapshot, BUT, take a look
at the lighting and shadows. I have tried shots
like this before, and would always get close objects
washed-out, and the distant objects too dark. This
shot has had no dodging/burning, and except for a
little level adjustments, is pretty much straight
out of the camera.

I used the built in pop-up flash, in addition to
the off-camera TTL FL-40 flash aimed up at the ceiling,
and also have a white, fan-shaped card attached to the
back of the flash head to add a little more diffused light.
1/30 sec, F5.0, ISO80 auto-metering center weighted.

I was really happy with the results of this one-shot wonder.

Great shooting! Good way to combat uneven lighting.

Compostitionally it's a snapshot, but the lighting is the bomb! I haven't had anywheres near this kind of results using the flash on either of my cameras...
