I am finding the framing a bit more challenging than I expected. I am hoping for a little help with my decision about what to enter. I have one photo with a very evident distinct frame . . . meaningful, but less asthetically pleasing, and another with a less distinct framing method that is more appealing.

Which way do I go?

If you can't pick I say leave the frame out.

Oh no not an actual frame. (Sorry I wasn't very clear.) This is for the framing challenge. The frame is part of the photo.

I dunno man.. I entered this challenge with a photo that could possibly get torn apart, but I had a serendipitous moment on the first day of the challenge that caused me to enter it, so I haven't really put much thought into the challenge at *all*..

It all depends on what you want. Do you want a ribbon? Then go with how you feel the mob votes.. do you just want the satisfaction of entering and entry and possibly getting some constructive critique? Then enter the shot that you just really like :)

Of course.. nothing is ever certain is it. :)

Oh man.. I haven't helped at all, have I?

I wish I could enter them both and see how they would come out.

Hi dartomkins
This will happen to you over and over again, it happens to all of us. You just need to decide and hope for the best! Truth is you will never really know if you made the right decision, use it as a learning tool.

Go with the other one. I hope that helps you make your decision.

Decision is based on the fact that no matter which one you enter, you are going to always think that the other one is the one which would do better. So therefore, don't start with the one, just go straight to the other one.

Clear?

Thanks for all of your comments. I think I will submit the other one.

Hey guys. This was the one that didn't get entered in the framing contest. I started to ask what you thought the other day, but then removed since the contest hadn't officially started.

Two questions:
What do ya score it?
Do you see this as grainy?

It was rejected on DPCPrints for being too grainy. All I see is the texture of the granite. Opinions please.

What should I change to fix this shot?
09/01/2004 11:45:40 PM · #14
well you can try to run it through neatimage, but neatimage can only do so much. only thing you can really do is to prevent it from happening in the future by using the lowest ISO you can.

Thanks.

I like everything about the picture except for the hand rail. It is a good concept but to me the rail just doesn't fit in. I probably would have put this right in the middle, maybe a tad higher because you did put some work in getting the framing (alignment of the elements) right. The hotel on the right is a bit distracting as well.

I wasn't really distracted by the handrail, but the building in the background did distract me. That is probably why I didn't enter this one. I am a complete novice at editing, so my attempts to do something about the building would have been pitiful. If anyone out there is an editing wizard, I would love to see this without the building! Feel free.
