The General Discussion Threads? Can we do this like we do the rant? Seems some folks get the rant and general discussion mixed up.

I'd like to have the option in my preferences to show or hide each of the forums according to my personal interests...

:o)

Ditto.

The 'ignore' feature is presenting me with some bugs. As I ignore threads, my list of 30 most current threads often dwindles down to 10 or 15. The 'list' doesn't handle a lot of ignores very well :(

Personally, I'd like to see all the political threads to always be in rant or else be deleted. Kind of annoying when I come to a photography site and 10 of the 15 front page threads are about politics.

Selective ignoring of any forum would be a wonderful addition to the site... after investigating this very issue this week, I have determined that I would ignore the following forums completely:

Rant (already ignored)
General Discussion
Current Challenge
Challenge Results
Individual Photograph Discussion

The remaining threads usually contain more posts that I enjoy reading. Selectively ignoring all the posts in these forums also gives me about a 24 hour spread on the 30 most recent posts rather than 2-3 hours.

This would be great for me too.

Just because a thread is there you don't have to view it. I'd like a filter for any thread that has the words Bush, President, or Vote in the title or body but as there isn't one I just don't read those threads.

But if all those threads were off the front page then I can see the ones I enjoy reading. Know what I mean?

Which is why there is a 'thread options' button so you can decide to watch or ignore the thread. I know what you are all getting at but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to adapt the forum to your personal liking.

We are just saying it would be nice to be able to ignore entire forums so as not to have to ignore each individual thread...

OK, am sure its a 'nice to have' feature but it doesn't take long to scroll through the last 24 hours posts and view the ones you want, you may even stumble across the odd interesting thread?

I suppose its possible but it's rare enough that I wouldn't miss much :)

You must not have any kids or have a life. I am not going to go through each forum and click ignore. I tried that and it takes way to long. I have a life and 4 kids. Sorry if I don't see things your way.

Oh ya, aren't you the person I kicked in another thread? hehehehee... you are asking for it again. ;-)

I apologize for many of my strange threads. I too dislike the political threads and tend to ignore them.

Well, if I am don't worry cos I didn't feel anything. In answer to your question, yes, I do have a life and my children are adults now :)

Don't be sorry if you can't see things my why, wouldn't the world be a boring place if we all did? I just don't find it laborious or time consuming to scan the posts during the last 24 hours when I come online and select those that I wish to read reply to.

Just my 2 cents...I applaud and support this idea 100%. A thread I started disappeared in no time from the viewable area so I'm sure that I miss a lot of topics that would peak my interest because they aren't on the main page.

Jim, quick question...Why would you turn off "Individual Photo Discussion"?

I know that I could use all the c & c that I can get on my photos (especially from photographers such as yourself), and seeing as how the challenge photos only end up with a few comments it's nice to get feedback on individual photos sometimes.

Most of the comments for the challenges are along the lines of "cool, i like black and white", which is fine for a comment, but it's not the greatest way for me to improve my photography.

Try John. He might like his correct name a little better.

When you say the thread disapears from the viewable in no time do you mean you have to actualy scroll down to view it?

Threads in the last 24 hours displays exactly what it says. You can view your most recent posts from your profile page or even 'watch' a thread. I reckon thats ample filtering.

We have forums?!?!?! *gasp!*
11/02/2004 04:58:14 PM · #23
Bump.

I want to turn off whichever forums I don't want to read. I could ignore thread, I do that now. But this is a site suggestions folder and I second, third, 100th this one.

Why is that you have a big problem with us wanting to shut off certain forums?

Why not make life a little easier if we can?
