You already know I use PhotoAccess, but to be fair I haven't tried others. I started using Photoaccess two years ago based on a review of similar services in MacWorld, I think. They were first or second-best in all categories, and the only ones with software for OS X. Supposedly, they have an ICC profile available for color matching too, but you might have to ask for it. I have never received anything less than an excellent print from them, and they always arrive in perfect condition. The prints have more depth and richer colors than I can get from my Canon s900 or Epson 9600 (essentially an oversized 2200). Just order your first 10 free prints and check 'em out. It'll only cost you about $2 or $3 for shipping.

Try sending in a cropped image aswell that does not have the 'correct' dimensions.. see if they crop it automatically (wich you really dont want) or if they leave white borders at the particular side.

Mine (not online since i don't like uploading 100mb while the drive is way shorter) did crop them and I just found a way how to go around that.. but it's a lot of work so i would prefer a service that leaves the images untouched!

Just so far as the cropping issue that mOTiVe mentioned, Shutterfly gives you the option of having the white borders along the side (and showing your entire image) or cropping (and they let you adjust the crop yourself).

i just checked out photoaccess.com for the first time. cool if you want a calendar, mug or mousepad... however i've been getting prints done at Costco. if you have one near you it's a must do. 12 x 18 prints are only $2.99. and the quality is unreal. you can get glossy or matte finish, and many other sizes too. i think they even have calendars and things like that. the really cool thing about it is, you bring your cd in, and the prints are done within an hour while you shop. i threw my epson color printer in the garbage. no more messing with ink cartriges. i love it.

I use clubphoto. They print the photo just like you send it. They also have an option called 4 x D instead of 4 x 6 that you can use. It helps to keep from getting back photos that are cropped ackwardly when I forget to size them. They often have sales where I get the 4 x D or 4 x 6 or 3 x 5 for 19 cents. Normal prices is 25 cents. They have upload tools you can download for free also. Their quality is excellent. You can share albums with others so they can choose which photos they want or you can set the album to not be shared. Great options if family members or friends want to share some of your photos.

For those who live in the UK, Amateur Photographer magazine is a must-buy this week... they have a supplement which reviews all the major high street shops and internet labs who print from digital.

i've only tried fujifilm's online developing service. i uploaded pics and ordered them for pickup at a local ralph's. however, i still haven't found them and no one seems to know where they are, so i don't know about the quality. i'm thinking i'll try someone else next time.

If you have a local Ritz/Wolf Camera store, you can upload files to RitzPIX.com and pick them up in 3-4 hours.

If you want to try Kodak paper instead of Fuji try Ofoto.com

Has anybody had any experience with making color slides from digital images? I've seen a couple places on the net advertising such services, with prices ranging from $1 to $2.50.

I use shutterfly almost exclusively. Excellent service, great prints, good prices, fast shipping and you always get to keep the extra prints they make when they do color testing (though it doesn't happen often). :)

The advantage of using a local store (Ritz, Walmart, Costco etc) is you can get them reprinted if you have a problem much easier. Shutterfly will do them, but you have to ship everything back and forth a few times.

I use MPIX a lot. They're run by Miller labs, a professional lab. The color is EXACT, it's nice to see that the profile works as good as it does. :)

//www.mpix.com, enjoy. They do next day shipping for $10 no matter how many prints you order.

A while ago I tried ezprints, shutterfly, photoaccess, dotPhoto and ofoto.

I found them pretty much to all be reliably unreliable and gave up on them for anything that I want for my own use, though I still provide prints to others using shutterfly. Main problems were random colour shifts and shoddy quality control/ shipping packaging. I had a set of
10 images that I wanted printed as a test set - was a good way to establish the variance across the various places and didn't cost me a whole lot.

I print on an R800 for anything under an 8x10, use a local lab for when I have a lot of 4x6s or 5x7s that I want done, so that I can get local pickup, have profile support and I complain about bad colour reproduction/ get reprints and use West Coast Imaging //www.westcoastimaging.com for things that I'm going to hang on my wall that are bigger than 8x10.

I'll check out //www.mpix.com for the future too. I'd really like to find a decent on-line place that will do 'event' style photo viewing and access, that has decent quality, prices and a colour managed flow.

You also may want to look into Bonus Print (www.bonusprint.com). They not only service the US and the UK but the rest of the world as well. Although not highly advertised, they deliver high quality prints on Fuji paper. I cant tell their prints from those made at a custom lab here in Charleston, except for the price. Standard prints ( 4x6 or 4x5.3 digitally sized - your choice) are 17 cents, 5x7's are 29 cents, and 8x10's are 1.99. The price and the quality cant be beat.

There are only a couple of places which offer "native-sized" digital prints like that -- great if you want to emulate "traditional one-hour developing" process and make printed proofs right from the card with no cropping issues.
