yeah i carry it always.
I don't take pictures everyday, but having the camera around is a start.

I almost never carry my camera 'just because' I find I don't take very good pictures just randomly seeing things.

I carry my camera when I have an idea in mind or am travelling somewhere. This goes both for the big SLR and the tiny optio S4.

For the people who carry a camera all the time:

Roughly how many truely great pictures to do you think you've taken, that you'd have missed otherwise ?

I usually carry it around during the weekends and that's only if I have an idea and want to shoot something specific.

If it is only the one, it is still worth it. You might only have the one chance to get it, and then it is nice to have the camera with you. Besides carrying the camera is not a lot of work.

Driving to work one day last week I saw some mist on a field and beams of light from the rising sun cutting through it from behind some trees. I stopped the car, ran across the field and took pics. I was really pleased that I did not miss that opportunity, although I did have to explain to nearly everyone in the office why my trousers and shoes were covered in mud, not to mention the apologising for the mess on the carpet :)

not tons but a good number... It is like gambling... sporatic gratification (or whatever it is called).. the most adictive kind.

I don't know about great, but I would have been sorely disappointed to have not caught this sunrise. The only reason I caught this on the drive to work was because I like to have my camera with me if I can.

I'm already carrying a backpack with a laptop back and forth to work anyway, it seems a small thing to me to carry my camera with a single lens (in my case a 17-40mm) as well.

I don't know how many "truely great pictures" I've taken but I found numerous times at work when I've been called to photograph someone's baby shower or wedding shower or a work anniversary commemoration lunch. I'm sure those pictures probably wouldn't be hung in a gallery but they have value to the people who were celebrating at the time. I generally spent no more than 15 minutes (what many people here would take on a smoke break) and I was able to give people some photos of themselves being congratulated or celebrated by their co-workers.

Then again, I have just gotten a bug to go driving and shooting instead of going home every now and again and its nice to have the camera with me on those occasions.

heh, my mother used to always say to me "why are you always carrying around that huge camera?" me:"you never know when something will happen and i want to take a picture of it"
3 days later coming from a dinner, there was this beautiful sunset. i left my camera at home so my mother wouldnt bother me about it. next thing i know she says: "take a picture of the sunset, its beautiful" me:"i dont have my camera" i think she finally understood why i bring it with me everywhere i go.

Yep, I lug my camera everywhere. And the few times that I have forgotten it have been the few times that I really wished I hadn't.
Although I am thinking of getting a little "snappy cam" to carry around permanently instead....

Rich, that is a truly stunning sunrise. An argument for carrying the camera if I've ever seen one. Just out of curiosity, how much enhancement did you do to bring out the richness in that image?

I hit the sauration pretty hard on it, but they were overall adjustments. I did not add or remove anything to a specific part of the image (i.e., no dodge and burn). Mainly I was trying to pull out the shooting streaks in the center. At some point I decided I liked the light show that came out of it as well. I know it is not subtle, but I like it anyway.

I used to have my little Olympus stylus with me every day, always, but my husband has been using that for class lately (all summer)...so lately, I take nothing with me to work. I take my 10D with me most of the time after work, unless I am going to run errands at the grocery store or target. I take it to ALL events, parties, gatherings, outings, etc. I just don't take it to work very often because it's huge and i have no where at my desk to store it. I don't want it to get stolen when I go for coffee, ya know!

Take mine most places, have to be careful at work as not allowed, security get a bit stressed.

Although I do take it to work once in a while to do our monthly garden shots.

I take my Oly everywhere, and my Rebel most of the time. The security people stopped bothering me at work since I'm on the Wildlife Habitat Committee and am responsible for documenting the flora and fauna.

Always. I lug it around everywhere despite the weight. It can get tiresome, but I'd rather be tired than miss a shot. I usually have a monopod or tripod sitting in the car waiting for me. I'd leave the camera in the car but not without insuring it first.

These are really great candids. I especially like the second one.

only when I am shooting.
This is sad.
I would like to carry my cam everywhere but I hate the bag I have. It's too big. Plus I never know which lens I will need so I hate to leave anything behind.
