Hi guys. We all know the hyper talented photographer this site bring to light. I'm thinking about guys like Kiwiness that blue ribbonned his last 3 entry and others like Jacko, Heida etc. The point is we are 25466 photographers on this site as of 11:11 A.M. this morning. Most of them (me included) never have and may never ribbon but I think there is work that deserve to be seen and commented on. This is my tribute to a photographer that I don't know personnally And with wich I've never even exchanged a PM, but I think is work worth a look. The guys is FSTOPOPEN.
The point to this tribute is to bring people to look at his work and to comment on it. and of course to bring other people to put a tribute like this one to a photographer that never won a ribbon. I also think that a daily tribute like this should be added as a feature of this site.

Absolutely agree 110%... Drake's shots speak for themselves:

Some of those only have a dozen or so views... they need to be seen!!!

I had the same thought two weeks ago when I discovered a few here that do work that just hits home for me in an incredible way - but not always the mass appeal type. I am just afraid that the second it became official as a weekly thing, that it would lose the spontaneity. I try to comment often on those now so they will be brought to the forefront hopefully. And YES, FSTOPOPEN is an amazing photographer with so much for us to enjoy! Thank you, nicklevy, for reminding us!!

holy s***! sorry for the profanity, but I am in shock. Thank you so much for the boost. That completely made my day! I don't even know what to say other than thank you. I know I should be more coy, but that meant a lot to me. You are right, I have never gotten a ribbon, but I do feel like some of my stuff is okay. It is really nice to know that others feel the same, even if I am not getting 1st place. It is my hunch that there are many others who are in the same situation. I'm rambling. Thanks you guys.

I second any motion to bring credit where it is deserved. We must keep in mind that ribbons do not per se represent the very best. They are a direct response to a specific challenge which often goes to the most clever interpretation and of course the response from the collective voting arena, which is often subject to moods and need for excitation and often the frenzy overlooks wonderful works. While it is true that the collective voters are usually right, as we all know it is prone to error.

It is certain that good technique is almost a pre-requisite...but then there are many expert and creative photographers that have not scored. Yet, if you look at their work you find sheer enjoyment in their port.

I am new here and I spend time looking at ports daily. The talent is certain beyond question.

I have not had the opportunity to have examined fstopopen unril I read this thread and checked out his wonderful port. I am impressed and I will return to post some comments of appreciation. Thank you for posting this thread.

Having met Drake I'd like to add that he's just a great human being to boot. Even if he didn't remember to bring his tripod to DC with him. ;)

lol. I once drove for a shoot to Boston without my strobes. Had a similar shaped box in car, which I should have removed. I checked it off my list as the strobes. LMAO. Got there and drove right back. Ouch.

in my defense, the tripod was damaged during travel. I had a video tripod with me too, since I was there to videotape a wedding, but It is very large, and very heavy. I still think of you BLEMT every time I get out the tripod you bought for me. Thanks. I am still just so humbled by this thread.
