Hi, I'm thinking about ordering new lens (lenses) from //www.bhphoto.com.
The only thing bothering me is a lack of money.

I would most like the canon 24-70 (2.8) and the canon 70-200 IS (2.8) but that does 2.820$ And because I'm a student with not so much cash I'm thinking of
Sigma 24-70 (2.8) and the Sigma 70-200 (2.8)
for only 1.200$

I was thinking if anyone have some experience of these sigma lenses and if the canon lenses are worth all that extra money. My real choose is between the both Sigma lenses or the canon 24-70.

Any thoughts, stories and statitics would be very nice :)

I have the Canon 24-70 f/2.8 and it's one of the best lenses anyone makes. I'd wait to be able to get the Canons personally. Get the Canon 24-70 first, it's one of the most versatile lenses that lives on my camera 90% of the time.

I own both of these canon lenses (the NON IS version of the 70-200). I have also had the opportunity to shoot with both of those Sigma lenses. One of my friends here in town owns both of those.

The Sigma lenses are comparable to the Canons in just about every area except for image sharpness. The stuff I shot with the Sigma lenses did not have any more sharpness than my less expensive glass.

The Sigma 24-70 f/2.8 has an issue that I don't like. The lens hood mounts to the end of the lens and it moves with the lens element. It is ONLY effective at the wide end of the focal lengths. The Canon hood for the 24-70 mounts to the barrel and it does not move with the lens elements. It is effective throughout the entire range of focal lengths.

For me its a simple choice.
Do you make enough money from your photography to justify buying professional gear?

If you are a pro you most definatly wanna go the Canon L way, but if you're just playing around really the other stuff should be just fine.... unless you have too much cash waiting aroung to be spent:p

Professional Gear is the way to go...I have a nikon D1X, and I suck.

I don't have any money just laying aroung and I dont make any money, just the tipical guy how has to have the best. I think I will get me those sigmas if I dont get anything negative about them and if the sharpness is very very good.

That problem with the hood, posted by jmsetzler, I can live with because the pricegap is freaking huge.

The sharpness is the reason I didn't buy the Sigma lenses.

I've used a Sigma 70-300mm lens wich isnt an EX type of lense and I think its very sharp....
(EX beeing the high end of Sigma lenses and that 70-200 f 2.8 is EX)

I would love to hear from someone that actually owns those sigma lenses I'm talking about. I would like to know why he/she made that choise and if he/she is happy with that choise afterwards.
