It was brought to my attention last night (thank you Skip) that "Home Sweet Hole" by scalvert placed a mere .008 of a point behind mine in the Miniatures challenge. Seems to me that photos placing that close could be recognized as a tie. Shannon's photo is excellent and I wanted to make sure that everyone looked past the 3 posted photos to see his. He has gone to a great deal of work to create this photo, not to mention how much he must have had to bribed his young daughter to sit there for him! I wanted to make sure everyone saw it.

Thanks for the thoughtful gesture, Debi! My last entry (Athlete's Foot) missed first place by an even narrower margin (.002). Has there ever been an actual tie for a ribbon? That would be a bummer!

I was tied for 2nd place once and got a yellow ribbon. I pestered Drew until he gave me a red. There are now 2 red ribbons in the At Work challenge :)

Yeh, I always found that weird

Two second places- that's funny, Ben! I just noticed on the Feet challenge that I had a higher average from commenters and a higher average from users with cameras, but there was ONE voter without a camera that gave EddyG an 8 and didn't vote on mine at all. So one guy without a camera was the difference between first and second place. ROFLOL!

Boooo. This is a competition site, not a fuzzy feel good, short bus riding, everyone who enters is a winner site. No ties if one photo scores higher than another no matter how close. Boooo.

I don't think Debi meant literally calling it a tie and giving out four ribbons. She was just being nice by offering recognition to a shot that was SOOO close.

Why have the Olympics if ties for that close?
I am on the competition side of things. I hate the everyone gets an award/trophy (and the above qouted) way things have turned. yes, building confidence is good, but I think it gives way to our "gimme something for nothing" stuff we see these days.
Kudos to the one that was only .008th behind. Missed it by that much! (C:

I agree that this is competition and soforth 100%... but yikes...coulda done without the "short bus" comment... that's pretty harsh, man. I'm not coming down on you, I'm just sayin'...

Helloooo... [waving arms] I'm pretty sure everybody agrees that giving out ribbons for being close is a Bad Thing. Whoever wins, wins. Debi was just being considerate by pointing it out to others for recognition.

I'm still amused that ribbons were decided on this photography site by one voter without a camera, perhaps only because he didn't vote on all the entries. I'll bet that's never happened before.

Good Grief! Who wadded your panties in a bunch? I was just surprised at how very closed the scores were and thought scalvert deserved recognition. I know that once the winning photos are announced many people don't go past seeing what the top 3 photos are and where their photo landed. His is an excellent photo and I wanted to point that out -- NOTHING MORE!

Life's short -- If my suggestion a tie can send you into such a tizzy maybe a few warm fuzzys are needed in your life.

why stop here...we could go on and open up about anal challenge interpretations, voting methods, in-camera vs post-processing...i guess the weather has been bad just about everywhere considering the tone of the threads vs the amount of shooting we've been getting done

In my opinion "Home, Sweet Hole" is by far the best mind teaser I have seen on DPC. It will always stand out as a major effort. Note how the creator came right back with another winner. Yet, "Home, Sweet Hole" may remain his mascot. This will serve as Scalvert's benchmark.

Apparently humor isn't always obvious.
