I know this is not a happy image, but I like to look at it and feel sad. Took it an hour ago while I whas waiting for someone in the trainstation.

Any thoughts, critique?

or hope...that could be a look of dogged determination. such is the strength of an excellent image, to evoke so many possible responses!

I love this shot- very WW2 poland. Also, very U2 album cover. The black and white adds depth and a classic purist feel to this shot. Also, I love trainstation shots, like this one by kevrobertson

nice work.

I'm with blindjustice in that this could be an excellent u2 cover! Of course, this is just a terrific photo as it is, but it does remind me of some of Anton Corbin's work (however you spell that) for earlier U2 (and if the earlier photo bw work was by him...!)... Sorry, that was confusing. But really - I love the hell out of this photo!

Here's my trainstation picture (although it is a Metro stop). It is probably one of my favorite pictures I've taken this past year. After a little processing, it looks just like a lot of the propoganda photos I've seen in a ton of books in the Former Soviet Union. It was taken at the Metro Stop for Lenin Square. Taken handheld in the dark station with my little Optio S4

Cristi...it is such a wonderful shot! I wish you could explain your black and white conversion method because it is brilliant.

Thanks,
Lee

Hmmm.. this is a hard to answer question because I always do lots of small adjustments and I seem to always loos track of them, but the main things I did to this one, I first adjusted it in color until it whas all pleasing to the eye, then converted it to grayscale and then to a green quadtone I downloaded from John Setzler's website (by the way Thanks John those are great). To ehance the contrast and give it that grounge effect, I applied a couple of slight black gradients from both sides darker at the sides, transparency towards the girl, and then set that layer to overlay and reduced it's fill until it looked natural. This last step is what gave it that cool depth of textures. Hope this makes sense. Cheers!

I wanted to ask you 'candid' photographers a question (especially frumoaznicul, if you see this)...do you approach your subjects at all or do you sneak up and photograph them?

Could you guys give me some insight into this? These are some beautiful pictures!
