Just a neutral question:

Did everyone who voted for Hieda's 3rd place ribbon, vote on it based on who they 'knew' it was?

I read all the comments, and there are a few of comments made before and after the results, on how they knew it was her photo.

I was just wondering.... were they giving her high votes based on the fact they knew it was her photo? Or based on how good the photo is?

kinda hard to answer that unless u interview every voter.

Well... thats kinda what I am doing. I would like to get a reply from the voters that at least admitted they knew it was her photo.

Many photographers on this site have a style, sometimes we pick up on it, other times not, some times we vote knowning it's theirs, and other times not....

who's to say?

When I voted, I knew it was either Heida's or someone else trying to do the same thing. Some may call it style or some may call it her unique touch or some may even ask if she can do anything else.
To be honest, I don't care if the picture was taken automatically by a camera trapped under 5 metres of rubble. I go through them having the challenge theme in my mind and try to figure out how individuals pictures fit the challenge and how good those image are.

I'm one who gave such a reply... but I really liked the colors and the sharpness in the photo, and truly admire her work. Yes, I gave her a 10, but I gave 4 10s in the challenge (and two of the other ones finished 2nd and 4th). I wasn't *entirely* sure it was hers since I'm still pretty new, but I had a hunch. But I really felt that her photo deserved the 10, regardless of who took the picture.

Danny pretty much sums it up.

Some folks have a "style" that is so strong as to be almost instantly recognizable. Will folks vote differently because they "know" a photo is from a certain photographer...certainly. Will they vote it higher? or lower? Who could know! And what could possibly be done about it!

However, regardless of the photographer, chances are good that the overall score will reflect how most voters felt about the photo. Not about how a few voters scored the pic because they knew who the photographer was.

Heida is easy to pick out because all her photos have that borderline digital art look, along with all her skies looking the same.

I voted heida's photos 10's or 2's ,depended how much I liked them,I knew were her's...

I can tell Sonifo's,Disidwell's,JMSetzler's,Heida's and other people's photos !

I gave the photo a 6. I had suspected that it was a 'Heida image' but that didn't sway me one way or the other. I didn't vote it higher because there were aspects of the photo I just didn't care for - the sand on the feet kinda bugged me and I thought the brooding sky conflicted with the "free falling" feel of of the people in the photo. It certainly doesn't reflect on how I feel about her work as a whole - she is obviously very talented!

It's interesting that this question was raised... I would certainly hope that certain images don't get higher votes just because someone guessed who created them. Photos should be voted on their individual merit alone. Don't ya'll think?

I think alot of voters could tell this was Heidas work. Personally, this was definately my favorite in the "feet" challenge regardless of who I knew/thought the photographer was. I have to admit, I originally gave it an 8 because it is so similar in style to her previous work. I later considered it to unfair to take that into consideration and bumped it up to the 10 I felt it deserves. I think we all try to judge each entry on its own merit.

I knew it was her by the style of the photo aka the over dodged and burned sky, forboding Icelandic clouds.BTW is it ever sunny in Iceland? But it didn't make me give her a better score because it was her photo. Still I gave her a 7 or 8 (cant remember right now) because I thought it was very well done.

Even my wife knew the shot was Heida's. So what? Recognizing the photographer is simply a novelty, and has zero effect on whether or not I like a particular image. Heida has had images that score in the 7's and others that score in the 4's. She's an excellent photographer, but that doesn't mean that every single image she produces will be equally excellent. Whether they recognize the photographer or not, I don't think anyone will give a 10 to a bad image or a 1 to a good image (unless they are intentionally voting for friends or family). Heck, there have been some images by kiwiness that I voted as low as 8! ;-)

Fair Enough Guys.

Again.. this was a neutral question. I was just curious.

Thanks for the feedback.
