I'd like to see a challenge where we can make homage to a photographer whose work has inspired us. (Ansel Adams, Hiro, Man Ray, Imogen Cunningham, Dorothea Lange, Greg Gorman, Henrie Lartigue, Jean-Jacques Beguin, Tom Till, whoever...)

The submissions could be attempts at re-creating an iconic photo (I wanta see somebody do Moonrise Over Hernandez, New Mexico or, say, Doisneau's The Kiss, or an Annie Liebowitz portrait (my favorite is Whoopi Goldberg- in a clawfooted bathtub filled with milk), or ANY photo which has influenced your style/your eye/your life. Or, they could be your idea of how that photographer would have photographed a subject of your choosing.

I think its a great idea also but I fear that there would be drawbacks to it as well. I don't know how many people here actually study the works of the classic photographers. There is very rarely any discussion of it.

Let alone easy access to Yosemite, ala Ansel Adams... lol

I made a very similar challenge suggestion several months back (maybe even a year) after we did a project on similar lines for a photography evening class.

Our brief was to attend a mainstream exhibition, preferably photographic, and create a series of images inpsired by that exhibition.

I won't give away the details but there was an ehibition on at the time featuring the work of two photographers and I based my project on a series of images in the style of one of the two.
