Just curious, those that run a Mac-like theme on a Windows box, why not just get the real thing instead of using a wannabe theme? :)

Troll :-)

And anyway, why are Mac users so defensive these days?

We're not defensive! ;-)

I don't want the added effect of crashes every hour that comes with owning a Mac ;)

I find it interesting that this article points out that Linux on the desktop (i.e., home and office PCs, not servers) already surpasses Apple's market share...

Hey, I really like that photo! Where'd you get it?

I wouldn't mind that one too

This is wicked. I love your desktop. I assume you're running OSX?

With buttons for "Drive A:", "Drive C:", "Drive D:", "Drive E:" in the lower right corner, that would be pretty funny.

Gee, I have plain blue screen with icons. I'd have a neutral gray screen if I could figure out how to set it up (W-2000). Anything else introduces errors into the photo-editing process.

Whenever I have a desktop pattern set I can never find any of my desktop icons.

Well, it didn't look Windows-ish, and the centered icons at the bottom reminded me of the OSX setup. Next guess is Linux, but it doesn't look like any Linux windows manager I've seen...

I would, but Mac hardware is just so damn expensive. Maybe you'd like to donate a nice G5 to me? ;-)

My guess it that it is something like WindowBlinds that allows you to "skin" Windows...

Looks more like ObjectDock from the same company.

But it lasts longer, is easier to set up/troubleshoot, is relatively secure, and comes with several actually useful free programs (edit photos, movies, music) instead of the virus-magnet Outlook.

Windows is just as stable/secure if you know how to use it. I always build my own computers, and they have a pretty good reputation for lasting a long time. Windows comes with paint (I'd have to buy photoshop either way), movie maker, and windows media player, built in cd burning support, etc. what else do you need? Oh yea, and I use Firefox/Thunderbird instead of Outlook or IE.

Ok, this is a sensational image. Any chance of posting the original, or a link to it? It really does make the most sensational wallpaper.

I usually change my wallpaper about once a week, and use my own images. If I have an entry in a challenge that is typically my wallpaper that week.

Aye ... there's the rub. "Most" people not only can't build a computer, they couldn't name their operating system, they just want to get some task (word processing, number crunching, web surfing, games, whatever ...) DONE and don't want to worry about configurations, conflicts, or any ove the 6000 control panels necessary to get Windows working properly. (Hyperbole intentional).

And, I meant the Mac hardware lasts (funtionally) longer ... on average. No operating system is "stable" when I use it* ...

BTW -- as someone working in desktop publishing, I pretty much hate everything Apple and Adobe have done with OS X and the CS programs and PostScript -- it's a royal PITB and completely unnecessary from what I can tell.

*Actually, when I last checked yesterday, I had a Mac G3/OS 8.6 which had maintained a continuous network connection with a G3/OS 9.2/AppleShareIP-Server for over nine days.

HAHA, I just bought myself a G5 and it's going to last me a while. :) True that it's not as inexpensive as building your own Windows box but I just like the feel and the way it works over a Win 2000/XP box. Just personal preference and I'm around Windows 2000 all day but I don't touch it.

I just got around to finally installing Adobe CS standard on my new G5 and I haven't created any new publications with InDesign CS yet and I'm curious how different it is compared to v2. But I tell you, I love OS X vs OS 9 and Windows 98. I never did any DTP work with Windows 2000 or XP so I can't compare that aspect. Getting everything setup is quite simple except getting my Mac to communicate with my Xerox DC1632 but I have a feeling it'll work soon otherwise I'll print PDFs from my mailserver (667MHz G4 running 10.2.8).
