BikeRacer's thread about how he setup his shot reminded me of one I meant to mention in the forums (since a couple of people asked).
This shot, from the Everyday Objects challenge:
A couple of people thought they were balanced or stuck into the wood. In fact, I caught them just after I moved my finger holding them up, and before they began to fall too much. The scissors are only on one point because I accidentally flicked them as I moved my fingers. Lucky it was a sharp shot!
You can see the next frame here:
Taking handheld and without a timer, naturally. :-)
I'm adding it to my 'how did they do that' shots, which also includes:

That's cool -- nice job! I will remember that technique. Next time you might try this using the timer and a tripod. Mine flashes a light on the front a couple of times just before the shutter trips. You could let go just as the light goes off.
Also avoids the potential mixup where you squeeze the scissors and drop the camera ....

Hahaha, yeah, I grant you there wasn't much planning involved. I just had the idea and picked up my camera. I only took about 10-12 shots in total - most very blurry. |

Like this:
I stuck plastic cable ties into the spaces between my drawers and poked them through some wrapping paper (my favourite white backing). Then using a little tape I stuck the cards on at varying angles to hide the ties. |
