I nominate KevinRiggs for the award of "Best Commenter".
I've seen several of his in-depth postings now, some in forums, some on photos. I find that I learn something just about every time does one of his in-depth reviews.
Even my 16 year-old daughter (not a member here) who entered the miniature open challenge received comments from him. She had complained to me that he wrote a book on her photo and made her feel bad. I took her back to the comments and showed her how much she could learn from what he posted. Once she realized it wasn't a critique of her abilities, but more of an instruction of what worked, what didn't, and how it could be improved, then she changed her opinion.
And to think that, in the middle of voting on some 200 + photos, he took the time to write that much to someone he didn't know (and could have no idea how much of a newby she was, or how much she could benefit), really says a lot to me.
So... I nominate KevinRiggs for the award of "Best Commenter".
How about you ... Any other "favorite commenters" out there?
P.S.
Maybe DPC could add a 'favorite commenters' option too (not just favorite photographer which could possibly be different).

I second that. It makes me happy to hear that someone cares that much to give so much of his time and to do it in such a constructive manner.
Kudos, to Kevin. |

No more nominations? Comments?
I think that if we spotlight the good ones, more will decide to participate in leaving more and better comments.

Ohmark left me a detailed and insightful comment on my everyday object photo
and I see he has left some technically helpful (IMO) comments on other pics.
He points out things I might not other wise have thought of and I found that very helpful - educating.

In terms of comments received I've had wonderful comments in recent months from theodor38 and Mavrik.
Likewise Neuferland, Bibliophile, Jpochard, Tyt2000, OneSweetSin and Melismatica have given some useful comments to me over time.
I have also made a number of lovely friends via DPC Chat and often ask these friends to comment on my images as I value and trust their input. Thanks to PaulMdx :o), Frisca, BaMartin, MBardeen, Manic, Moodville, Mousie, Setzler, Shiiizzzam, Robsmith, Konador, Gordon, Sonifo and others.
The only comment that has made my actually cry because it touched me so much has come from Robsmith. Knowing someone got the point of the image so exactly and that they really liked it that much was a very emotional thing for me.
Edited coz I missed out my mate Mousie.

I valued that comment too!
Funnily enough I did say to myself before I titled it... it's the wrong side to be my heart... but it was a figurative title for me so I decided to go with it. "Hand on my heart" is often said to convey truthfulness about the statement it accompanies and that's what I was going for.

Voluntarily deleted because it was very childish to do stuff like that.

That is utterly UTTERLY childish, totally uncalled for and not very nice. This is a positive thread and you have chosen in your wisdom and judgment to bring negativity from another thread to taint this one? shame on you.

Why didn't you say the same thing when someone did this same thing to me? I guess it's only wrong the second time.

| photom always has good insights why one's photograph does or does not work. You might not agree with his analysis totally, but you are sure that it's written in familiar and diplomatic language and always offers suggestions how you might improve your shot. It is always a pleasure reading his comments. |

Eeek... bad vibes in too many threads.
I nominate all the people who frequently enter unusually creative shots. Folks like graphicfunk, imagineer, photom, tyt2000, pitsaman, smokeditor, kavey and most of the SC put a lot of careful thought into their entries, and they tend to mirror that effort with their comments. This group is more likely to comment with a paragraph than a word, and it is certainly appreciated. |

Thanks for the plug, Kavey, it's very gratifying. I would suggest that the folks who complain about not getting enough comments follow her example and simply ask an individual you trust, like, and/or admire to take a moment to comment on a specific image. I'm sure most folks would be obliging. My favorite comments to follow. I have to review first. Zeuszen comes to mind immediately, though.
Kavey, could you post a thumbnail to the image with the comment that made you cry?

Just go to my profile and look at my entry for self portrait. I'd rather not post a thumbnail here. :o)

You have completely and totally misinterpreted what I have said. Let me try again: What I mean is if you have anything to say about your deleted comments, keep it to that thread or discuss it with the person who deleted her comments in the first place. Don't bring it into this thread. If you have anything else you'd like to discuss with me about my response to you in this thread, please PM me, otherwise please keep all posts on topic. Thank you.

Oh yes, I love Zeuszen's comments. I haven't been lucky enough to get any of his indepth ones on my (few) entries as I don't think I take sufficiently inspiring images BUT I love reading his comments on other peoples' work. Even when I don't agree I find them illuminating.

I already mentioned Zeuszen so I guess Ursula has seconded that one. Another second would be for Imagineer. He approaches his critiques from the very generous POV that the photographer had at least a vague vision in mind when he/she made the photo and decided to enter it. He has a very open-minded approach but still manages to offer generally sound technical advice. I've appreciated a few recent comments left by Digital Quixote. Anyone who commented positively on my Balance entry has my nomination. :-D
I very much appreciated the CC comment on my Freedom entry by Jadin. Photom has left some great comments and I've just now discovered his CC comments on my Purple challenge which was great. Thanks Photom! I've gotten some honest, helpful comments from Wwwavenger who has an uncanny knack for gettin my work and offers his comments and advice, much in the way that Imagineer does, from the POV that I had a vague notion of what I was doing. I've only gotten one comment from Whagerbaumer, who I'm unfamiliar with in this forum, but it nailed the very thing I liked about my June Free Study entry. I got a wonderful comment from emorgan49 for my Color Portrait. Early on I got a great comment from stdavidson that I appreciated very much.
I nominate Kylie for a special award for taking the time and showing the interest to browse member portfolios and comment on non-challenge photos without being asked to. |
