You just aren't allowed to take pictures on the gaming floors, I don't think they care if you are carrying it around. |

My 2 cents. More important than a tripod, is a TALL Tripod. If your rig doesn't go beyond 7 ft.... you're toast. Bring a step stool, and a big rig. The city doesn't sleep, so EVERY shot you take, will have heads.

You'll want to take shots from the people walkers over top the streets, so you'll need a wide zoom to craft through the fence. You'll see.

 Tall Tripod

Though all of the shots I posted were taken with a tripod that extends to a maximum height of 3 inches... There are steps, staircases and bridges all over the place that can be used to good effect. A tripod doesn't have to be on the ground to be stable. It doesn't even have to be held in place by gravity to be useful.

Good Luck w/that. Post your Cropped up images of Vegas afterwards.

I think the results speak for themselves. Personally I think the bigger the tripod, the worse time you'll have with the crowds. I have plenty more, with and without heads depending on if I wanted to use them in the composition.

Nice time for a 'Neon' challenge though.

Would a monopod do instead of a tripod? Are they as stable as a tripod?

Haven't seen as much sucess with a monopod at night. They are good for supporting a heavy lens for sports type shooting, where you want to be more generally mobile, but for slower exposure shots, I think you'd need exceptionally good technique not to sway at all. |

I think I know what you mean. Of the monopods I've seen they don't look like they offer much support like my tripod. I guess I'll stick with my mini tripod.
