Grand prize is $20,000 US + Canon products. Canon being a sponser is also gonna have their own grand prize winner, prize to be announced.

Let's see if DPC can come up with a winner!

So which one is the "surname" and which one is the "given name"?
08/10/2004 02:56:58 PM · #3
Your "given name" is typically the one that your parents "gave you" (your first name). Your "surname" is typically your "last name" and isn't usually chosen by your parents, but rather is the last name of the father, or some combination of the mother and father's last name. (Note that I say "usually" because there are exceptions.)

Please note that there are separate Youth (Ben, where are you?) and Kids under-14 categories with substantial prizes.
I'm kind of stumped for a submission idea though : )

looking at the previous winners - says to me - if you travel/live to/in exotic places you have a better chance of winning.

i think librodo might want to consider this contest quite seriously..

im still trying to figure out what the Theme is. Like I know its Diversity, but I am kind of confused about it. Because doesnt it have to do with the environment? Maybe someone can explain it =)

Exotic? How about toxic? I live in a toxic place...I'm not joking. Naples is the dirtiest, filthiest, most garbage ridden city in Italy. The air is almost lethal and all those damned Vespas aren't helping. Maybe I'll give it a try!

Just look at the past entries. I think the idea is basically to capture an image of our world that identifies a global issue/problem/state of affairs that helps to bring light to something otherwise unknown or unseen. Oil spills in Iraq circa 1992, flood victims in India, etc. are examples. Not that this has to be specific to environmental issues, but those seem to fit well.

I guess its good that I live about 20-30 miles from a Nuclear Power Plant, and only about 25 miles from the East Coast's Biggest Oil Refinery!

Given recent UN history, there is a good chance that the winning entrant will be acrony of Kofi Anan or some other UN official.

The way I take it is that it should be in a journalistic style and represent something that has to do with your local environment. Whether it is good or bad. So scenic shots that show it is preserved, or shots showing how the environment is being destroyed. That is just what I read into it.

Maybe the right style, wrong quality?

What a drag ... they classify youth up to age 25 :( Which means I'm eligible for $5000 and under prize. Oh well ..

Do you have to enter the youth section? Once I won an adult section in a competition even though there was a kids section I could have entered.

I guess so ..

[General Category (Persons 25 or older on 24 October, 2004)]

It looks like i wouldn't be eligible to enter that category =/

Sorry, I guess I mean local as in the whole world really. I just figured for most it would be easier to take an image closer to home.

I think what he means that he will turn or not turn the right age 12 days away from the submission dates.
