I only managed to get through about 1/2 of the blue shots as I was a bit busy, and didn't vote on yours.
I'd have given it a 4 or 5.
I think the shot is OK, the focus is good, exposure is good, but in the lighting is not very flattering IMHO. The harsh shadows from the flash (?) around the hands is distracting, and flash up close and personal makes the skin look flat. I would have gone for softer lighting, bounced off a while wall, or card.
If you've not got access to any lighting gear, a white sheet hanging on the washing line, with the sun shining through it will do very well. Or a thin curtains over a window. A 500W halogen flood light if it's night time will do, and they are cheap, check out some of theodor38's work, he uses them to great effect. There was a thread about how he was using them with home made 'soft boxes' made from tinfoil and coathangers a while back, search the forums... (Watch out for them though, they get hot..)
2x 500w floods with home made soft-boxes. Cheap-as, and great results.
Park your model at 45 degrees to the direction of the sunlight/lights for a start, and get them to swing their hips about to see how the shadows play out.
Grain is not an issue with this shot, appart from for the 'noise is evil' crowd that seem to live at DPC.. :-).
Keep on shooting..... |
