Hey. I remember seeing a chart or some text here a while ago that showed how much a given score would/should/could deviate after a certain number of votes had been cast. Does anyone have that, or remember what thread it was in?

Do you mean that one?
It points to another in the first post....
Sorry about the long url!
(btw, I searched the forums for "chart" and found the Scores, Stats, and More Damned Lies thread) |

Thanks, those are close, but not quite what I remember. The thread I was thinking of had something like: "based on x examples, after y votes your score will only deviate by +/- 0.z"
I'll do some searching myself.

Here are a bunch of charts and graphs that might entertain you while looking...

You divide the maximum difference in score a vote can put by the number of vote you have and this is the maximum deviation a vote can do. In exemple: If you have 100 vote. the maximum difference a vote can put is 9 (given your scor ise either 1 or 10). you then divide 9 by 100 (the formula is Max.diff./total vote) and the results is .9
Another exemple: if you have a score of say 4.5505. Then the maximum difference a vote can put if someone give you a ten is 5.4495 (10-4.5505) and let's say at this moment you have 167 votes then, (the formula is still Max.diff./total vote) the results will be 0.03 (5.4495/167) if I understand your question correctly.
I hope this help.

It isn't the one you are looking for, but I threw together a spreadsheet that probably contains close to the same information.
Vote deviation spreadsheet
To use it just enter your current number of votes and score into the fields. You can also flip to the chart sheet if you want to look it up yourself.

nick - thanks, but i was looking for some info based on historical voting patterns - something like "based on many datapoints, scores rarely deviate by more than 0.15 after 150 votes or 3 days of voting"
thanks David, that's a pretty cool spreadsheet.
