It's the end of the world as we know it, by R.E.M. - this one was the biggest in my eyes from that movie
No yall are talking about the one where they go, "You can change it if you want...fine with me" then the next sec, "DON'T YOU REMEBER YOU TOLD ME YOU LOVED ME BABY...dadada...YOU SAID YOU'D BE COMING BACK THIS WAY AGAIN BABY...BABY BABY BABY BABY OOHHH BABY...I love you!" The the hood flies up, classic

the Stones song "Time is on my Side" and the movie "Fallen" (Denzel Washington) - if I hear that song, I think of the villain who sang it through the whole movie.

I have to agree with this one. Singin In The Rain played such a surreal role in that movie. I love the song, and, because of the movie, I learned all the words to it! |

It's the last song in the movie and plays right before the credits. I originally thought it was a Ritchie Valens song but I've never been able to find it. It's an instrumental song played with a slide quitar. I love the song but have no idea where to find it. Anyone have any ideas? |

It is probably
"Sleepwalk"
Written by Santo Farina, John Farina and Ann Farina
Performed by Santo and Johnny |
If that is the same song I am thinking of, it was also in Stephen King's movie "Sleepwalkers". Huh, go figure. Good song, crappy movie. |

Thanks for the link, but this version is a little modernized and is missing that special quality that made the original what it is. I'll have to search Kazaa for the original version.

Silence of the Lambs - "American Girl" by Tom Petty
I have a strange impulse to sing it at the top of my lungs as I'm driving down the road if I hear it on the radio..... all along hoping some psycho doesn't decide to make a suit out of me. Is that weird? :-) |

Isn't it a great movie! Glad you bought it on DVD. So did I! I LOVE that soundtrack. If I am flipping movie channels and it's on, I have to leave it on... I'm like a deer in the headlights with this movie!

American Girl is an eerie song anyhow... I had a friend in college who lived in the building that girl (in the song) committed suicide from! Beaty Towers in Gainesville, FL.

"Jesse's Girl" by Rick Springfield in "Boogie Nights". It's great to see how much someone who is higher than a kite enjoys singing along to this song, and how badly he butchers the lyrics. |

HA! I can't hear Sister Christian (a song I hate) without thinking of Alfred Molina saying something like, "Wait, the best part is coming up" and air-drumming. That is one hilarious, yet poignant movie. |

Most definitely! That was a brilliant scene and I have the same reaction when I hear that song now. My husband kind of hates that it ruined the song for him.
I was never a fan of the song, When A Man Loves a Woman, but it is such a fitting opener for The Crying Game.
I think Wes Andersen has used music really well in his movies. I love the way he opened The Royal Tennenbaums with, if memory serves, an instrumental of Hey Jude Someone correct me if I'm wrong. I know it was a Beatles' song.
This is a tad off-topic because these songs come from the movies themselves, but I feel two movies that showed early on how well pop music can be integrated into the mood of a film are Harold and Maude with a soundtrack provided by (then-named) Cat Stevens and The Graduate with a soundtrack by Simon and Garfunkle. |

'Dry The Rain' by The Beta Band from High Fidelity. They do a really cool scene with this song, as the pan around the guys record store!
'Streets of Philadelphia" by Unknown(can't remember)from Philadelphia. One of my favourite movies, and this song is used so powerfully in this movie.
'Tiny Dancer' by Elton john from Almost Famous. Another of my favourite movies, I love the scene where they're all mad at eachother on the bus, and then all of a sudden the whole bus breaks out into a verse of 'Tiny Dancer' :-)
Those are my three, I've got loads more, but these are the ones I can remember off the top of my head.

An example of a soundtrack album being more memorable than the movie is the B-52's Cosmic Thing which, if I recall correctly, comprised a great deal of the Earth Girls Are Easy soundtrack, although only one song made it to the actual soundtrack album.

The Beta Band are great.
So far no one has mentioned Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody in Wayne's World. That's a very memorable scene and it got a lot of air play for an old song, at least on MTV.
A song that initially only played on college radio but got a boost of air play after the fact is 500 Miles by The Proclaimers, an Edinborough duet. It was featured in Benny and June and experienced a bit of a revival a few years after the initial album release. I had bought the album when it was originally out and highly recommend it. |

Just to clarify, that's a cover of a song originally written and recorded by Tears for Fears on the debut album The Hurting. |
