Why do you think this shot scored so low? 7 1's and 8 2's really suprised me.

I gave it a 5. It didn't inspire me as 'interesting' as presented. I am also pretty sure that this woulnd't be considered 'everyday' by a majority.

I see a lot of opportunity within this image though :)

I guess I thought firetrucks are pretty common, and easily identifiable to most people, so it would be an interesting take on the everyday firetruck.

Can you suggest anything to improve the image itself?

Not within the context of the challenge... I would work a LOT of smaller compositions with that subject :)

Hi-ho,

I gave it a 6, as I thought it was an OK match to the challenge, and was in focus etc.. It just wasn't that interesting to be honest..

I also find the blown out sky a little annoying, which is what this looks like, in this case I think the image has become bottom heavy, and my eye is searching in the shadow for details which detracts from the neat lines and shapes on the front of the truck.

The desaturation worked really well, given the basic editing rules for the challenge.

If this truck is easy to get to, I'd be going back during golden hour (sunset/sunrise) a few times myself, to get a good shot for the wall/album. It's a very photogenic truck, as rusting old trucks go.

I also agree with jmsetzler about smaller compositions, that bonnet/grille is awesome.

Just my 2c worth... :-)

Thanks both of you, I see what you mean about the bottom-heaviness, I will go back out there and take some more shots.

If you're interested, this is at the "World's Largest Scrap Metal Sculpture" yard in Wisconsin (on 14 between madison and devil's lake), and he has a bunch of cool junked vehicles as well as fabulous sculptures of all sizes. Definitely worth seeing if you're in the area.
