Is there any way the photos can be given first in, first out? Right now it feels like a losing battle, there's probably some photos that have been in the (bottom of the) queue for over a month. . .

Why not restrict the critique check box to full members only! The forum can still be available to registered members if they want to add their photo there to be critiqued by others.
That should bring the list down and add another value to being a member. Your photo would be critiqued in a reasonable time frame and supports the people who stay & pay for the site to continue.
IMO

The value ad is a good point, but I must admit that I got a review from the critique club before I was a member and I was so impressed that it helped me become a member faster than it otherwise would've. Just my 2c :)

That's a great idea! (and maybe we could hide the "395 queued jobs ... " thing at the same time ;))

Yeah great idea... I like that!
-That would also promote membership.
-help out the new people.
-Lower the length of the queue.
-And make non members think about which photo to have critqued as they only have 1 free critque!
Good job!

The queue gets cleared at each challenge rollover, removing the previous challenge's critique requests, thus there will only be requests from the challenges currently on the dpc frontpage in the queue.
FYI, there is a major overhaul of the critique club in the pipeline that will resolve most of the problems with the current, but due to the workload D&L are currently under, it's been delayed until other more important updates have been completed. So for the mean time, any volunteers would still be appreciated!

Ok so that includes results? Can I ask you to clarify this. If it hasn't been done by the time the results are rolled its not going to happen? Or it will happen before they are rolled over?

MMmmm must be talkin to the people that actually know how to photogragh and critque... lol Seriously maybe when I get some more experience, I have far to much to learn at the mo!

I may not be the best person to critique images (Not being one of the top photographers)but I would be very happy to take on some of the task
Is there any one I have to be in touch with to do so
even if I spend an hour a day I would be very happy to give my time.
I can give an honest opinion

Only the challenges that currently have their results displayed on the dpc homepage have photos in the critique queue. EG, when the next open challenge finishes tonight, any of the 'words' photos still in the critique queue will be removed.

You can learn a lot by just trying to write a critique - it'll help you break down the elements that make a photo successful or unsuccessful, which in turn will help you analyse your own entries...

To volunteer for the critique club, click on the 'community' then 'critique club' links in the top menu bar. You should then be shown information on who to contact in order to join. If that doesn't work, just PM me :o)

If the challenge results are no longer on the home page, the pictures are no longer in the CC que. If you didn't get a critique, you never will unless you post a special request in the forums and beg for one.
Do you like to look at pictures? Do you vote? You must have some basis for deciding what you like. A "beginner" critique is better than no critique. You don't have to take great photos to write a great critique. And writing them is a wonderful way to learn - try it.
Long ago there were some threads about how to analyze a photo. Maybe by John and Gordon. Anyone remember where those threads are? I printed them but lost the link. |

I agree with what your saying, but I only joined here 1 month ago and only had my camera for 1 month and 1 day! I still have a long way to go but I will certainly think about it! Ask me again in a month or so.
