I need a wide angle lens for my D-100.
So, I am considering purchasing this lens.
Any feedback?

I believe it comes with the D-70.

It's a great everyday lens. Super sharp focus and really quick AF. I would definitely recommend it.

I'm saving my pennies for the 10.5mm fisheye lens. (works as a macro as well) The 10.5 is 16mm 35mm equivelant. The 18-70 is 27-105.

Given any thought to the Nikon Zoom Super Wide Angle AF 12-24mm f/4G ED-IF DX AF-S Autofocus Lens?

I'd say that given the 1.5 conversion factor on Nikon DSLRs, that this lens would be closer to what you have in mind.

I purchased it about a month ago and its quickly become the main lens I use.

the 18-70mm is a great lens! Quite sharp and fast. I do recommend it.

I also like it a lot, but since you said wide angle, it does show barrel distortion at 18 mm. Can't remember the focal length at which the distortion disappears (I'm sure its on DPReview somewhere). Other than that, it focuses fast and quietly, has a great zoom range, is light weight, well built, sharp and affordable. I've heard good things about the 17-55 DX as well, but it is more expensive. I'd definitely recommend the 18-70 though.

Not sure what lenses you currently have nor what kind of photography you excell in.....but for a wide angle zoom, the Nikkor 17-35 f/2.8 is an absolutely incredible lense. At home on many photo-journalist's cameras. Pro grade at its finest.

If that lens is anyting like the kit lens for the rebel, you will run into two problems:

1 - you won't be able to buy it unless you buy it with the camera or buy it used.

2 - it may not fit the d100 camera.

I'm pretty sure all DX lenses are compatible with any Nikon DSLR.

I think it is also available separate from the kit, but costs more if purchased separately. You're right, the DX lenses work with all Nikon digital SLRs (not recommended for the Kodak SLR/n b/c it is full frame...I think)

I think you have a lot of choice here, and it comes down to comfort and budget.

12-24

17-35

17-55

Maybe even the Sigma?
12-24

Personally, I think the none fixed aperature is somewhat unacceptable.

I have found that fixed focal length wide angles work best for me. I am most comfortable in the 20mm range. 30MM w/the 1.5 crop.

Run down to your local shop and mount this one ->
20MM Prime

The quality of the prime is going to be better then any Zoom you mount, other than the 17-35MM.

Thanks All!

I went to a local Wolf Camera Store (Ritz Affliate) in town.
They said they could order the lens but it would be about $400 - $450.

The guy told me that there would be no Barrel Distortion...
(Yeah right)

As a follow-up, I was just on a photo outing where I used my 18-70 almost exclusively. It was awesome in use and gave the best results I've ever taken (not saying much, but still). The wide angle capabilities were very useful. Definitely a high quality lens imho.
