In the recent thread on duotones, I was wondering just how to do a quad in psp. All the quads I've seen all seem to have different hues of the same color, so maybe I'm not thinking right about what they are. This is my attempt using different colors. Is this how it should be done? If not. Could someone post some examples?
I used green for the darks, orange for the mids and magenta for the lights on a greyscale base. This was a picture I had on the hd from last year. The magenta is funky, but I wanted the colors to be different enough from each other to be seen easily.
Thanks for any help. |

I'm not sure it's a traditional quadtone, although that's just based on my limited exposure and knowledge. I havent quite seen anything like that personally. The tones look good other than the magenta, which just looks like a bad weird color cast. All the quadtones I've used involve mostly similar colors.

I don't see any problems with this shot except it's a little yellowish. Not in all a bad thing in itself. Many of the preset quadtones in PS use all different colors. I find I have the best luck just playing around with differing colors till I get the 'feel' that I am looking for!

You've definitely got the right idea! keep playing around with colors and curve combinations until you find ones you like.
This is a tri-tone made using three of the "process" colors, Black, Cyan, and Yellow; not intended to be "photo-realistic" though ....

Thanks for the feed back. I agree the colors are funky. I just wanted to get a feel for the process. Maybe I will be able to set up an action for it now that I know what to do. |
