Sounds rather like the theocracy Jerry Falwell and the Moral Majority want to implement here ... although maybe they don't want a pre-industrialized state so much as a pre-industrialized society .... |
Falwell, Robertson, et. al. don't stand a chance in hell (pun definitly intended) of implementing a theocracy here as long as this country does not collapse from within due to assorted fifth columnists. |
I think you would be surprised if you looked into this matter a little bit deeper. A very large number of 'benign' relgious organizations in the United States have been built, ran or are heavily supported over the past twenty years by a number of prominent 'Christian Reconstructivists', these are the hardcore 'Old Testament Biblical Law' preaching people.
One such group supposrted by the Reconstructivists is the 'Promise Keepers'.
I work with a handful of people that are big on this bandwagon and a few of them are 'preaching' the 'New Thought' (or whatever they call it) that is coming out of such groups. They say it is about 'Simplifying' your life.
What they are saying is that you shouldn't think or concern yourself with anything 'complicated' because it will only add stress to your life and you don't need that. So, you shouldn't bother paying attention to things like politics, they will provide you a list of 'approved' candidates and bills to vote for... This guy at work, is eating that up and living that to its fullest.
I can't even bring myself to talk to this guy. Although, I have been considering using his own religious beliefs against this 'New Thought' he is preaching. Unfortunately, he will ignore me or claim that I am persecuting him, when all I would be doing is asking him to think without any kind of attack on his person. |
