in the Word challeng. I just realized it was an open and I violated the rules. I PM'ed Clubjuggle to DQ me immediately. Appologies to those who already voted on it. Damn it was doing good to...

I'll post up the shot as soon as it's properly DQ'ed. Let's just say that I used masks which aren't allowed...

I really wished that this was an advance challenge. Sucks :(

Sorry to hear that, and thanks for letting us know. I'll take care of this for you as soon as my spam filtering service catches up and sends your email through.

Thanks Terry, I don't wanna say which shot it is here until it's taken care of, but if you have a different email that will go straight through, PM me with it and I tell ya which shot...

It all goes to the same place. It looks like my mail host is being less than cooperative tonight.

Could you do an admin-note request on your entry? That should get it into the DQ system.

Thanks,
Terry

No and neither were my intentions. BTW it's not proper to discuss shots during a challenge... That's why I will not disclose which shot till appropriate actions are taken...

Done. It's a nice shot, too... sorry to see it go.

Mistakes happen to the best of us; we do appreciate your being honest about this.

This is the shot, comments welcomed:

Hope it doesn't affect my overall rating...

Nice shot, sorry about the DQ. Left you a comment.

A tip of the cap to TC for being so forthcoming about his mistake. I'm not a fan of sel desat but I can see a quality photo there. Sorry it had to come out. It may have done quite well. Hope you get tons of tens on your next entry.

Does anyone know if this will go down on my permanent record? If so, how does it show up and will it effect my average score to date? Just curious.

As of right now, it is as if nothing ever happened, like you never even entered the challenge.

Thanks Eddy! I would hate to think that this simple mistake would have an effect on my overall average especially since I retracted before the first hour of voting even started. I DO think that there should be some repercussions for those that know they didn't do right, but don't retract till after they have a great finnish.

One of the issues the SC has been discussing is a penalty for disqualifications. Right now, we feel that there are too many DQ's, and part of the reason is probably because there is no "downside" -- there is not a dis-incentive to avoid being disqualified. By adding a penalty, we would hope it would encourage folks to ensure that they do have the original camera file, that they've verified that the EXIF data in the original shows the proper date, that they edited their submission using the correct rules, etc.

One suggestion is to allow 1 "free" DQ per year (to cover honest mistakes) and then after that, penalties would increase (which would negatively affect your average score) for each additonal DQ'd photo.

That seems like a good guideline. I personally do not understand why people think that they need to cheat on purpose. After all, it's not like ya can sell your digital ribbons for cash to get more camera equipment...

This is only if the DQ request led to actual disqualification, correct? People can have requests made for DQ on their photos all the time for what turns out to be unfounded reasons. I am assuming that this is what is meant, as it only makes sense . . but just checking.

you are correct, kylie. Only if the photo is actually DQ'd, not simply requested.
07/14/2004 01:26:32 PM · #25
Makes sense to me EddyG. I've had several people suggest that I "lose the original" and request an admin note on a shot scoring poorly just to get it DQ'd. That's not something I could bring myself to do, but I'll bet it happens.
