It was my cousin's wedding this weekend. I got a nice shot of them and can't choose between the edited and non-edited versions. Any suggestions? Should I choose something in between? Should I heida-burn it?

Thanks

Tough choice! I like both. THe first one is more true to life and the second one has that dreamy, romantic feel. MUST you choose?

Aleks...the second one is absolutely breathtaking...as a girly girl, I'd say go with that one...it's just dreamy!!!

Wow, they are both great photos. I agree with chiqui74 about the two photos. I would personally choose the first one.

Nah, try the blackface technique.

It's hands down for me. I like the first one.
Wonderful shot! They'll be pleased with the results.

I like the unedited one best. It will still be nice 20 years from now when the misty one might have gone out of style. Why not get both of them printed up for them?

You did a fabulous job, do you have any other wedding photos to share???

personally I'd re-do the edit, and leave the veil and his hair sharp, and just soften the background. barring that, the no-edit version is superior in my opinion. Either would be well-received by the couple though.

Both are great but I really like the second with the soft look.

What technique did you use to achieve this look?

Absolutely go with the softer one if you're putting it in an album or something. But the other one is so nice, I'm sure they'd like a copy of that version as well. Really great shots!

Thanks a lot for comments and suggestions.

editing steps: duplicate the first layer. apply gaussian blurs and fade them ( the stronger the blur, the stronger the fade). then I simply erased around the faces and flowers to return the detail in those areas.

Hey Aleks... do you have AutoFX's free Dreamy Photo plugin? Here's my edit of your original. I used Dreamy Photo and a little History Brush in Luminosity mode at 50% opacity on their faces...

Really lovely shot and I can see why it's hard to decide! It's such a nice shot to begin with that you could do many things with it and it would still look good...I think b/w would look nice too.

I would leave the choice up to the couple, or do both. Great job, and I'd like to see more from the wedding!

Very nice work! I like the red shift of the skin color. I'll imitate it on my version.
The dreamy look is a bit different, but I don't think either is much better.

I'm not a Photoshoper just yet. For now I'm a Photopainter. I'll be switching over soon so that I could benefit from plugins. Everything else is more or less the same for both programs. When I switch, I'll definitely download your plugin. Thanks for the info.

Edit: Although I must say that the redshift isn't good for the tuxedo and on the dress. I did a color balance only on the midtones and it looks great.

That Dreamy Photo thing also does what real soft focus does - in that it blurs the highlights more than the midtones and shadows - that marvellous haloing effect.

I think the blurred one is just a touch too far on those midtones and shadows Aleks - makes it look a little confused rather than softened. Being hyper-picky there though.
