I propose a duel to all DPC'ers! A challenge for all. A challenge to all to learn all they can about editing and manipulating images. A fun, interesting challenge. Something a little different. A challenge with almost no editing rules. A challenge of speed and imagination. I propose...

a 24 hour challenge with no editing rules except one. You can combine images into one to create an illusion. The only rule is you cannot render or digitally create elements of the shot. This would of course rule out added text. You CAN combine in anyway you wish any photos or elements from photos taken during the challenge period.

In order to make this a fair DUEL it would be announced ahead of the challenge period. This would allow all participants an equal opportunity to plan, prepare, gather props and practice any lacking skills needed!

I also propose that the perfect theme for this challenge would be (drum roll please) HALLOWEEN! All cultures that I know of have a holiday of some sort similar to Halloween wich would make it a culturaly fair (if the wrong time of year) challenge.

Or in other words, I propose the MOAHC (a made up word meaning the 'mother of all Halloween challenges')!

How about a challenge with No editing?

(Haven't figured out if anything other than a resize can
be caught in the EXIF by the mighty SC).

OK, a no editing for 2-3MP owners, one for the 3-4MP owners, 4-5, etc..

Oh nevermind.

LOL

A true duel would be a battle between two people hopefully with the same skills and cameras. What about we have all the ribbon winners battle it out for photographer of the month?

That would be cool a challenge with no other editing than crop and resize. Direct from camera shots, but I guess your right low end cameras would be in great disadvantage.

About tocool's ideea, well I am from a culture without halloween, but I live in transylvania, land of Draculla, so count me in :D

Poor SC members (and side harddrive) having to review all the EXIF info from the images used. X-)

It's hard to do that. -_- There's one running on PhoTournament (yes, I know "evil" site) like that and before the Admin disabled the forums (why???) there was a complaint thread about it...It's just asking for whining...(well and comments saying that the image needs to be sharper XD)

I did think about that. It WOULD be a bit of extra work to keep all honest...

The challenge The Past was a "no editing" challenge.

The issue around PhoTournament involved the "illegal" harvesting and use of DPC member email addresses.

These battles are usually fun when done as an individual progression series. I think it would be fun to do a "forum" challenge where one person starts it by contributing a picture, then the next person adds something from another picture, then the next person and so on. I also think it would be fun if, during the challenge, only the pictures from one "real" challenge can be used. The participants would choose the challenge (say June free study) and they would have to use their entry as their part of this challenge.
TooCool, you did mean no editing "rules" not "no editing". Or am I wrong?

There should be no warning about such a challenge. It should just be announced, if you are ready, then you are ready. If you are far from ready... Then simply do your best.

I enjoy the idea of being under pressure to take some shots. I believe learning how to take decent/good/great shots under a hard to meet deadline will help to significantly increase my skills.

I like the rest of the idea though. No real editing rules, save the creation of objects within the computer.

You mean like this??? could be fun,, but as has been mentioned. I think the SC would have a heck of a time validating all the images used.

Any other input, or are ya all yellow?

I like the idea. But I would prefer maybe a real duel, where you challenge only one other person to duel against. That is really what a duel is about, two people fighting it out together. I was thinking about one person choosing someone else to duel against, but it has to be someone who is in within 0.5 of their own average score (otherwise you can choose anyone with an average score of 4 or less and know you will beat them). The winner of that duel can then choose someone else to duel against, and so it goes on. I am sure that would spice things up a little here :) Maybe 4 or 5 duels going at one time would be enough. I don't think ribbons should be awarded to the dueling winners, maybe more something in the way of dueling points, something like that. These are just my first thoughts, but the idea is very good TooCool!

I think that would be a lot of fun, but have no idea how it could fit in to the normal DPC structure. Informal duels would work (ie, I challenge someone by PM), but that would be more of a private affair. I agree, no ribbons, but I like the idea of the winner moving on, similar to a playoff tournament.

A tournament is another idea I was thinking about once. Kind of like a tennis tornament where you have players going through the rounds and at the end a final between the last two photographers. It would probably have to take place over a few months though. I like these ideas, either dueling or a tournament. Or maybe some kind of team challenges where photographers work in teams against other teams. That would be interesting. You could use the team idea in a tournament situation as well, in that way you get more photographers involved. Any more ideas?

put 16 photographers on an island. each day there are photo contests, and one photographer is voted off the island. oh yeah, and make a TV show about it.
