I'm going to insure my camera gear, since there is no way I can afford to replace it if something happens. My insurance agent quoted me $1.47 per $100 value. Is that a reasonable price? I've never insured anything save a car before...

Thanks in advance.

What's the term length of the insurance? 6mo.? yr?

That sounds like a good rate but you didn't state the deductible amount. I have insurance thru NANPA (North American Nature Photographer's Association) at a rate of $2.30 per $100 with a $250 deductible. This is all-risk, world-wide coverage. It also covers leased or borrowed equipment and coverage for unscheduled items under $500 without having to list each item. It also covers computer equipment used for digital work. Minimum cost of this insurance is $350. per year. To take advantage of this coverage you must be a member of NANPA, though.

I was only able to get the quote from the secretary one minute before they closed for the weekend. So I only got that small bit of info. I'm assuming the term length is a year, since she said it was minimum of $30/year.

I don't think it will have a deductible amount. At least I'm hoping. I'll probably get this regardless of 6mo / year, and or deductible, paying $250 to replace it is a small price to pay compared to the full cost.

Also worth checking what usage you would be insured for - e.g., house contents/ home owners policies often don't insure equipment if you were using it for commercial purposes.

Let's get more folks on this thread. I'm very interested.

Do we put this on Home Owners?

Do we buy insurance outright?

Appraisals.... Full retail? Deductibles?

Anyone doing this?

My biggest fear is getting my equipment jack'd from my car. I don't think HomeOwners will pick this up, unless the car is in my driveway.

Anyone know the ropes on this?

What about if I get ripped off in person?

It might be worth your time to check out GroupInsure.com. I know many of the professionals from FredMiranda.com use their insurance service.

It's a "Personal Articles Policy" it covers the camera equipment etc alone. So if it's in my car or something, it'd be covered. And that's what I really want. The camera is worth more than the car lol.

Edit:: Thanks for the links, the first one is fairly expensive for me, and covers much more than I would need. (it's for a full blown business, maybe someday ;)

The second one, I can't find anything dealing with Insurance on there. (the fredmiranda one)
