I'm wondering if artificially adding fisheye distortion in photoshop is against the rules (i'm guessing it's not for advanced, but my question is for both).
Until I can afford a fisheye lens, I'm having fun seeing which of my photos look good 'fisheyed'. |

I don't think it's allowed in basic...but I could be wrong...it wouldn't be the first time. ;o)

| Nope -- can't use it for basic, and using it for Advanced might be problematic -- it's one of those things where you are trusting to the judgement of the SC whether it's "too much" use or not ... if you have an actual fisheye lens on your camera you can enter a shot with that in any challenge. |

Can the site council make an offical decision? It's something I really want to use if it's allowed.
And it is applied to the whole image... that seems to be important.

Applying that or any other "distortion" filter is not allowed under the Basic rules set.
There is no fixed guideline on the use of filters in the Advanced editing challenges -- if someone requests a DQ then the SC members all have to vote whether -- in our opinion -- the photo violates either the letter or the "spirit" of the rules. I don't completely care for that system myself, but that's how it works now ... at least as I understand it. My best advice is to use filters with discretion, and with informed consent and foreknowledge of the possible risks ...
