So, I am very new to photography and not very computer savvy. I have taken some photos that I feel might be good for the June free challenge but I am unsure if they will break any of the editing rules. How do I get the photo validated. Do I need to submit it early? Can I use any of the artistic tools in photoshop or will that break the rules?

Rules (BASIC) are here:

You don't have to get the image validated. But you need the original intact, in case DPC wants to know more about the image.

Thanks xion. So it appears that I can not use any filters except those specified in the basic rules.

June Free Study is an Advanced Rules challenge. there shouldn't be a problem using any filters you want.

Advanced Rules

Unless you use them "too much" and violate the "spirit of the rules" and are DQ'd anyway ...

that's true. just using them to enhance an image and still keep the 'photographic integrity' wouldn't be a problem, though.
