Happy day here... i was cleaning out some boxes of junk so I can make room for boxes of new junk. I came across a camera I thought I had lost. I was devastated when I went looking for this camera six or seven years ago and couldn't find it.

When this camera came out in 2010, it was a LOT of bang for the buck. It's a small pocket camera format that has all the desired shooting modes... A/P/Tv/Av/M as well as a host of scene modes. Oh yea.. and 14x optical zoom.

This camera has become obsoleted by the cameras on your phone unfortunately. I'll admit wholeheartedly that phone cameras are quite amazing for what they are. John Q. Public has decided to settle for the convenience of the phone camera instead of having a built to task camera.

Are any of you still shooting with cameras like this one? Do you prefer it to your phone?

Many of my first submissions to DPC back in the "before" times were shot with this one. And I still occasionally pull this one out, even though at this point it's failing and only works at either max or min focal length. I'm a huge believer in the idea that the best camera for the job is the one you have with you, and the pocket-ability of these things is still immensely appealing. It's one area where I think Kodak might still have the potential to be a disruptor in the consumer photography market.

This canon has a problem now that I am trying to figure out how to deal with. The internal battery is dead.

Yes, I still very much prefer my Sony RX100 VII over Iphone 16 Pro, I find the quality of RAW files much better and the zoom much higher quality than Iphone's 5x lens. I regret upgrading from 15 Pro to 16 Pro as 3x on 15 Pro was better.

About 2 years ago I completely lost interest in photography and I sold all my FF gear (two Sony bodies, four very good lenses) giving my husband a bit of a shock when I got over 5000 CHF for the second hand gear ;) He had no idea how much I used to spend on it!

My Sony Point N Shoot is now my main still camera and I am very happy with it. Pity Sony discontinued upgrades of RX100 series.

I got the internal battery problem resolved on this camera. I pulled my hair out trying to find a solution to replacing that battery and I couldn't find any documentation on it that led me to an answer. It turns out that the internal battery on this camera is integrated and not user serviceable. But it's also rechargeable. That means all you need to do to fix it is put a charged battery in the camera for a few hours or plug the camera into a powered USB connection. Problem solved. This 16 yr old camera is functional once again.
