Back in my original participation here at DPC, I was inspired to write an e-book on exposure and camera control. I still have that and thought I'd re-share it here nearly 20 years later...

If you ever wanted to learn how your camera works in a detailed manner, this is for you. If you ever wanted to learn how to control your camera better, this is for you. If you ever wanted to learn why a camera does something the way it does, this is for you.
When I put this out originally, it got a lot of traction and found its way into quite a few high school and college photography programs. It's free and I never took a dime for sharing it. I hope you find it useful.

| This is a great summary/review, even if you already know much of it, and worth downloading for the handy hyperfocal and exposure tables if nothing else. |

| This looks to be very comprehensive., I haven't read it all yet but I certainly will and print it. Thank you for sharing this. Sometimes when you read all the options and details you apply it differently and more carefully. I think this will serve as a brush up for many. Thanks again |

I have not once encountered a real world scenario where I needed to figure hyperfocal distances. In the digital world it’s easier to stack exposures at different focal lengths to work out more depth of field in those instances. I felt compelled to include it because Gordon McGregor thought it was pertinent… lol

I'm mostly editing on a Mac G3 that was already old when this site was founded, and shooting with a camera not that much newer -- it has minimal focus-bracketing capability but I never use it because I can't really combine them.
But I don't calculate hyperfocal distances either, though I sometimes try to approximate it. |
