This is a HUGE Red-Tailed Hawk I spotted today right
across the street (busy one) from my business.
With the E-10 not having a strong zoom (4x), I very slowly climbed the hill and managed a few shots before it took off. This actual shot filled almost half of the frame (2240x1680) before cropping.
A lot of PS work, as I was shooting into the light.
I can't wait to get a D70 or 10D and a 100-400mm
Magnificent creatures...
Forgot this part:
The Hawk was sitting on the fence watching it's lunch to be:
One of the two kittens that were either dumped
there by someone, or something happened to their
Momma. Now safe and secure in our home,
with 1 Hawk looking elsewhere for lunch today.

Take a look at what I started with:
Original, resized only.

Sue,
Are you familiar with the desaturation process of creating a layer, then desaturating it, then using the eraser tool to "resaturate" what you want the color to come back on?
I did something similar here, by creating a new layer via copy, brightening & adjusting the contrast on the whole image, then erasing everything except the bird. I had to do that numerous times, little by little until I was able to get things even and detailed. Then there was the obvious barrage of cloning out the branches. This particular shot took over an hour to clean up, but was well worth it, if for no other reason than fixing a picture.
I don't know if I did it the best way, or the fastest way, but it worked. Masking or magic wanding (for me at least) was almost useless with this much detail.
Play with it. You can't break it...
LOL

A little light begins to flicker!!....I recently did that for the selective saturation, but didn't understand what I was doing! So you can use that sort of technique for this sort of thing only with multiple layers........need to play more with ps, have only really been using it to resize till very recently. Thankyou :D |

Takes great pics of hawks with a relatively old digicam......saves orphan kittens...... employer is understanding about such things.....Hmmm...
Does Petersen Automotive have a branch on the East coast? Might be the kind of outfit you'd like to entrust your car to. |
