A3+ printer gun-slinging match!
I want an A3+ printer.
Borderless printing a must.
At least 7-colour.
Preferrably the cartridge will be removeble, and have the print heads.
Show us your guns! (or you opinions of A3+ printers, if you so please) |

Yes, archival inks would be advantageous.
Small picolitre, e.g. 3pL or below.
Speed isn't the essence of the day. As long as it doesn't take an hour to print an A3 photo. |

Canon i9900, Canon i9900 and Canon i9900, in that order. 8-color inks, 2 picoliters, 13x19" borderless printing, direct printing from camera, Firewire + USB 2.0, and the fastest guns available- all for $499 list. Nuff' said.

I looked on the specs, and it doesn't say if the Cartridge cradle is removeable, and if it houses the print heads.
Also, on the AUS specs sheet:
Recommended Printable Area: Top Margin: 3mm / Bottom Margin: 5mm
So, not true borderless?
EDIT:
Yes, i like the firewire. and the price.

It does print true, borderless images. It's just that borderless is not considered "normal" printing. The spec sheet just lists the default printable area. The ink cartridges are individually replaceable, but I'm not positive about the print head. I know that other Canon models in that line (including my old S900) DO have replaceable print heads, but I've never heard of anyone actually needing to replace one. I have owned and used many Epson and HP inkjet printers in the past, but my S900 has been far and away the fastest and most trouble-free with the best print quality. I use my printer almost exclusively for printing photos, lots of them, and I've never had any streaking or paper feed problems.
Pigment-based printers like the Epson 2200 boast a longer print life, but they're comparatively slow, have a reduced color gamut, and suffer from metamerism- an odd, metallic sheen on the surface of the print. If 25 years of fade-resistance isn't long enough, you can always print another one. |

"Permanent Printhead" would mean the heads are attached to the printer, and not a removeable ink cartridge cradle....? |

I'll just quote myself to explain this.
I just called Canon AUS and asked about their "Permanent Printhead" in their ?new? i9950 A3+ Inkjet.
In previous models, this was removeable, and classified as a "consumable". They were made to be replaced every 6-15 months.
Now, with the i9950, they decided to make the print head more robust, and designed it to last the life of the printer. So, what they did was call it a "Permanent Printhead", meaning it may as well be permanent, as you'll never need to replace it.
So, I presume this means that the built quality of the print heads is superior to older models, and removeable printheads that are still classed as a "consumable". This will (hopefully) provide better distribution of inks onto papers.
Good job Canon. |

The i9900 printhead IS replaceable. I didn't know there was an i9950 out (I haven't been shopping for printers lately), but it would seem that Canon is making a good thing even better.
BTW- The response to your post is underwhelming.

Results are a little better with the Epson and the archival inks. |
