If I remember right, all of the tips and techniques given out so far have been for Photoshop users (pretty much) and I was able to use several of the techniques in Photoshop 6. I would think that anything 6 can do, CS can do better. You should be able to use the instructions from most any of the previous posts. At least I think so. :o)

the instructions for ps 7 is the same for cs. it does take a bit of practice tho. you have to carefull select the colour not only in the pull down window but on the colour bar as well. This is true especially if you have a wide range of colour & mixed colour in the shot you are trying to desat.
Keep practicing, I'm sure you'll get it & from then on it's like butta!
Good luck!

Hi Nam,
My neighbor has CS and I was able to follow one of the processes I use in version 7. After making adjustments to the photo, create a new layer via copy. Select Image, Adjustments, Desaturate. Select the eraser tool and carefully erase over the area(s) you want to come back to color. Once done, you Select Layers, Flatten image.
You may want re-adjust the contrast & brightness after making the copy. Each image presents it's own unique "best method".
(At least that's one way of doing it)

Actually I did a quick one for Microsoft Digital Image Pro (9) here:
Desat with Microsoft Digital Image Pro 9
Maybe thoughts for a different way to do it. |

O.K. I'm totally frustrated.
How are you guys posting these pictures in the threads?
All I can do is manage to post a link to a web page where I store a picture...so lame.
And I was thinking of calling myself a photographer!

In your portfolio, take note of the image number as you mouse over any of your thumbnails (it is on the bottom of my screen in the left corner...I use IE). Then when you type in your text in the post reply box, click on the little icon at the end above the white box (the image icon..looks like a big window w/a smaller one in it) and it will ask for the image id number. Type in the number you noted and hit enter. Then preview it to be sure it's right. That's it! :o)

(To Lesya)
By golly, she's got it!
Nice shot BTW. The green leaf adds a lot to the shot, keeping it from being just 2 Yellow Day Lilies...
A few in my collection I've done by that method:
Can you tell I like that effect?
:)

If the image is on DPC, follow laurielblack's advice. But, if it is somewhere else, there is a tutorial in the Learn sectin of this site on using forum code with a section on clickable thumbnails. Note that not all portfolio sites will allow direct linking to the images, some demand a link only to the page (that way they get a hit as well).
