It would be great to see your photography again in the challenges Margaret even if they are Archival! Maybe other past members would be inclined to join in now and then if the archival free study option was offered on a regular basis.

Again. A temporary increase. Yes, the archival challenge would get a fair number of entries, but don't hold your breath for those same people to enter regular challenges (not even "now and then"). We have history to show it. |

So what does one have to lose by having a more routine Archival Free Study? Anyone can enter or not. Most everyone has pictures they wished they could have entered in a challenge but were not able. Many of the challenges we have are replicates of previous challenges or there may be overlapping ideas in two or more recent challenges. For instance, take a picture of the morning or take a picture of Flora. Both could be flowers in the morning. I see no harm in allowing people the opportunity to exhibit in a challenge a picture that they were not able to in the past for one reason or another. It’s to everyone’s benefit. It could be an additional challenge every 2 or 3 months or it could replace a scheduled challenge as has been done in the past. |

Larry - It appears that I'm misreading your intent, or your expectations. My take on what you were saying earlier was that you thought by having archival challenges we would increase participation across the board here for other challenges as well. My opinion is that any increase, when it comes to archivals, is short term. ... but, that's not the issue (I think)?
Anyway. The following part of what you last mentioned is pretty much right on target, and was laid out earlier with the rough plan of scheduling I'd mentioned. We do, and will continue to schedule, a handful of archival challenges throughout the year.

Kinda like DPL causes a temporary bump in participation, but it tapers off quickly once the event is over. |

Actually, I had originally suggested, not realizing that we already had a “Hidden Gems” challenge that we have an Archival Challenge that was like a Free Study in the near future. What followed was a discussion on whether or not Archival challenges should have a specific topic and how often they should run. That was not my intent so I thought I would try to open the idea up to the DPC community to see what they thought. I’m still in favor of “Hidden Gem” Archival challenges. The frequency of which can be can be determined. Maybe twice a year? :)

I am a crazy videography addict at the moment and that takes all my time, static images seem just too static ;) I also like a challenge, and learning to take and edit videos is a big challenge for me, although starting from photography made it a little bit easier. Not much though as moving pictures are infinitely more complex. |

I agree with this but, after thinking a bit more, I would prefer if the monthly Extended Free Study was turned into Archival Extended Free Study. This could motivate me if it were a regular challenge and Extended Free Study would become a bit more Extended than it is now. Maybe run a trial next month and see what happens?

That’s an interesting idea we haven’t tried yet. |

Last chance (12 pm) to give your opinion on if you would like to be counted to see more Hidden Gem (Free Study) and/or specific Arcival challenges! |

Looks like there was a small consensus that those who voted like both themed and free study type Archival challenges on an occasional basis! Not surprising. Thanks for looking:)

I think you may have counted some "quotes" as votes. I get 6 votes for each No. 4 and No. 5 ? ;) No problem either way. I think the point was made. |
