Not giving anything up! Those are very nice, but I've seen as good or better here on DPC. In fact, some of those may have done poorly here. |

People, people, that's not what she means! The awards are given out by the IPPA, The iPhone Photography Awards, and every one was captured with a camera phone :-)
I don't use an iPhone, mine's an Android, s21 Ultra to be precise, and it's so damned good I rarely touch my "real" camera anymore, only use it when I need/want a LOT of zoom. My phone gives me 10x optical on one of its lenses... Plus of course I use the drone :-) |

Ha - she wrote this might make you want to give upâ€Â¦ â€Â¦your camera. Took me a while.
These shots are all taken with a phone.
To be honest that’s almost all I use nowadays, the Leica SL sits in a drawer somewhereâ€Â¦ |

I missed that these were all phone pics. On a related note, I noticed we don't do the occasional camera phone challenge any longer. They have gotten so good that it's not much of a challenge at this point. |

I found the series shots more interesting...
Yes, well, I am always a bit pissed off that camera phones are that good. The crazy wild angle, the cool processing, so very anti-classic. |

I also have a love/hate with them.
The biggest "pro" is their size/weight. And that they're ALWAYS with you. |

I haven't figured out a way to get good shallow DOF or pleasing bokeh with a camera phone yet. |

If/when I abandon my current setup(s) the two items I would not part with are my old Pentax manual everything lenses, a 50mm and a 135mm. Whenever I bother to hook them up to shoot old old style I am blown away by both the clarity and the bokeh.
But as Tangy points out, the camera phone is with you, waiting and ready. (My Ricoh is always with me, more or less waiting and ready; before that I carried some lesser point and shoots with interesting lesser qualities which I find I miss).
All tools are tools.

I'm assuming you've tried portrait mode ..
it can work really well for shallow dof .. although the AI often leaves bits out .. so it's not perfect .. |

Given the huge lens collection on your profile - that’s going to be tough to match with a phone. |

Nuh-uh! That sounds like WAY too much work. :-) I find post-processing too time consuming generally. |

Actually no, I'm not sure I have, but it sounds like it could be handy. I usually find myself wishing I could get that effect when I only have the phone and I see something interesting in nature that would benefit from being able to isolate the subject.
Kind of kicking myself at the moment! I'm generally a fan of knowing the tools at hand and use the 'Pro' mode once in a while ... for some reason, the Portrait mode escaped my interest. May have to address that today!!! |

LOL! Yeah, I'm a bit of a collector / gear head. In my defense, most of that has been purchased used and many were obtained for very little $$$ (I spent $35 on my favorite, everyday lens ... Sears 55/1.4 M42). About 1/3 of the glass collection are of the old M42 screw mount lens type. |

I rarely use my camera. Phone is me main tool. Portrait mode works great on my S22Ultra. |
