Hi,
I just got this email and am looking for any advice as to how I should proceed with the request.

I am writing on behalf of IQ Glass, INC, a radiant heating glass company that
has recently debuted in the United States. Our product has appeared in Kiplinger
Magazine, This Old House, Architecture...to name but a few. Our site will tell
you more: www.iqglass.com.

We are contacted daily by the best glass manufacturers, architects, builders,
etc. in the United States. Our product is already even the subject of study in
the best U.S.universities. We have just begun our first United States project.

We would like to propose an exchange of services. We are lacking photos for our
website. We would like to use photos you may have that show use of glass in
architectural projects in exchange for free advertisement for you. Our site is
viewed by hundreds, daily, throughout the world. We are also planning on
creating a photographer's page that highlights photographer(s) that have
contributed to our site.
We intend to use the photos (no larger than 4 x 6) for the website only. There
will be no duplication of any kind. We are happy to sign a contract to your
liking.

Please contact us if you are interested.

Kind Regards,
Michelle Hardy
www.iqglass.com

Thanks.

Sounds like it's up to you, but one small point - the measurement they've given shows web naivity (6x4 is print term).

what does 'no larger than 4 x 6' mean? to me it means nothing unless someone has the idea of a print.

I didn't see the post by Imagineer when I posted. I think he is making the same point.

How did they get your e-mail addy? The way the message is worded, "photos you may have", sounds like they are casting a wide net. From looking at their website- they have been in business for 20 years and have a European website. Seems an unusual way for an establised company to acquire photos- "an exchange of services".

I just got the same email, I'm sure it's spam. The couple of times I've been contacted before the author was always very specific about the image they wanted.

Oh, btw, they didn't get hold of the email address ... they sent the message from my BetterPhoto gallery (which has a PM option similar to DPC).

Just send them an email stating that you're interested, but only if they fork out some serious dough for your pic, like $500 while you get to keep all author rights.

If they want your shots that bad, they'll pay. If they don't want to pay ANYTHING, challenge their business etiquette. That should shut them up.

Cool...Franziska. Yes that is how they got to me as well. Through Better Photo. It happen once before from a commercial real estate concern but that never went beyound the email stage.
I replied and they have since sent back a list of 16 images they would like to use. Fortunately and or unfortunately many of the images are stuck on my old computer and I have not been able to access them as of yet and I certainly won't be able to before I leave for Europe tomorrow evening. I may send them what I have and see what they do, about a half a dozen, before I go and deal with the rest, or not, when I get back. I cannot see this as being a big deal and getting a lot of bucks for it. Guess I'm silly that what way, but if I sell some prints from it that is OK.

Reply back to them asking that they please install all new windows in your house, for free of course. In exchange, you will agree to keep a small sign on one of the windows that says "courtesy of IQ Glass, Inc.", as free advertisement.

That's a fair way of doing business, right?
