If you haven't erased the memory card yet, you can upload the original from the card. |

Updating the program shouldn't have erased the files themselves. When you import into lightroom, it stores them in a particular place on your hard drive.
Are you missing all your photos? Or just the particular one for which you're looking? |

Thank you for your responses.
I understand what you're saying, Wendy, and also fully believe that they're in there somewhere. Just got to ferret them out. From some research I think that my most current catalog has been supplanted, and that's what, if I can, I'll try to run down. Tomorrow.
Steve, I did think of just reloading from my memory card, and was momentarily elated. But then I remembered that as an archival image, it had long been erased.
And Jeb, yes I'll try to backtrack. As to downloading to a dedicated file and putting them into Lightroom from there, is that even English? (A jibe squarely aimed at myself.)
I'll keep you updated on my quest. |

I think what Jeb means is (going forward) copy the files from your memory card to the computer with your computer's file manager instead of letting LR import them. Then import to LR from the copy you now have on the computer's drive. |

As a workflow I do have a DPC folder.
1. I create in the DPC folder a folder named after the challenge (usually copy paste from the site).
2. I drag the related photos from the card in the folder or I download the related photos from my phone to the folder.
3. I drag the folder to Lightroom (LR) and import from folder.
4. I export the file edited and resized in the same folder
5. Later you can right click on the photo and select open in folder.

Do you have the original date and file name? I use LR to import from the card, LR creates a folder on the hard disk for each day named by its date, I don't change filenames on import. I changed the settings in my cameras to know with which camera I took the photo, for example names of all my photos from A7R III start with R3... so as long as I know the date I can always (well, almost :) find my originals. I said almost because if I run out of space on the disk I move the whole months of photos to a new disk. In this case LR shows the folders with darker font indicating that the files could not be found. It gives me the option to change to the location and they can be displayed again.
Coming back to your problem, if you know the date or the filename you can search for your photo directly in Windows (assuming that you are using a PC). |

When you updated Lightroom it probably put your photos in a stored catalog. Go to Lightroom, files, catalogs and you may find your stored file there. Lightroom does not in and of itself store the files it just catalogues them for access. |

Rich, we'll extend you until 6 PM today to see if you can track 'em down, then we'll have to DQ the entry and move on, OK?
Everyone, thanks so much for rallying behind him in his hour of need :-) I'd have pitched in myself but by the time I realized this was going on all my ideas had already been fronted. |

Try this:
- Open Lightroom
- Select the Library Module
- From the main menu, select File>Open Recent
There should be some choices of recently opened catalogs. Try them. One is probably your original catalog.
If the above fails, on PCs, the usual location for the lightroom catalog is within your "Pictures" folder, in a subfolder called "Lightroom.". Select File>Open Catalog and navigate to that folder. You should see one or more options for catalogs. Try opening each. I'm not sure of the catalog location if on Mac. |

Thanks again for all the suggestions. And thank you, Robert for the extension. Something in there will surely work.
After walking the dog and lunch, gonna take a deep dive and grope for that pearl (a metaphor only, as no oysters will be harmed...). |

I think it's all gone through.
Since Fritz's advice was at the top position, and it seemed straightforward, I scampered about for a while and finally the right catalog appeared. A minor miracle. After a further tussle, I got the original image into play in the proofalyzer. My processing history is rather vague, but hopefully it's sufficient.
THANK YOU all for your generous assistance. 100% could not have done it without you. |

WONDERFUL .. !! ..
would have been sad to see that photo disappear from the home page .. xx
btw .. I used to include all my editing steps which was sometimes like a novel lol ..
I then asked if it was necessary .. and was told .. no it is not ..
now if I'm asked to supply originals that's all i do ..
although in the message box I do wish them a wonderful day or week or whatever .. but I don't include any editing steps at all ..
probably a relief for the sc and definitely a relief for me .. !! .. lol .. |

I didn't want to say anything in the thread for fear of jinxing . . . but I've been following. So glad to see this sorted!

Back in the day, we prohibited certain tools and processes, so we had to know if your work path was "correct". That got unwieldy fast as software piled upon software and we couldn't keep up. Accordingly, we made the rules result-based, not tool-based: that is to say, we don't care HOW you got the result, just that a comparison of the original to the submission doesn't reveal some sort of "illegal" editing, like (say) planting a tree in the middle of an otherwise treeless scene, or replacing a bland sky with an exciting one, or... things are always cropping up...
But yes, validation is much more pass/fail than it used to be, very few gray areas to deal with. |

I'm glad it all worked out well in the end.
