Selective Desaturation marks the third consecutive challenge where I think my "runner-up" outtake would have scored significantly better than my actual entry (currently at 5.14). I'd like to get a few honest opinions on this shot (I didn't enter a dragonfly) to see if my logic for not entering it was sound. Whattya' think?

Nice shot, but did you paint it blue? That might have sunk it...

I think it's very nice...the blue doesn't look "too much" and the composition is visually appealing, and the focus/detail is excellent. I'd have scored it around a 7 or 8. :o)

Good stuff. Anybody else? Be honest- I'm trying to prove a theory about DPC voting.
BTW- Laurie, you have pounced on the last few threads I started within seconds. You have been in most threads I've looked at, and you're all over the top finishers with congrats after a challenge. Thank you very much for being such an active participant! Now go check yourself into DPC Anonymous- you are seriously addicted. ;-) |

I know...I need some serious help, don't I? :o)
At least on DPC no one is asking me questions that start with "Mommy, can I have" or "Do you know where my" and no one throws a fit where I can hear it! ;o)

Point #1 - Shannon, your last 6 photos have place in the 80th percentile or above. If you're holding back on us, as this picture seems to suggest, then we're all in trouble. ;-) That dragonfly shot is absolutely stunning - I would have given it at least an 8.
Point #2 - You're right, Laurie. DPC is the best form of escapism and is slightly less expensive than crack. In the long run.
Edited for speeling.

Point #1- Thanks, Philip. I wish it were that simple. I'd rather hit 80% consistently than have a handful of ribbons and some 4's, not that I would mind a ribbon...
Point #2- In the long run, crack is cheaper. Canon doesn't make $1500 L crack pipes. ;-)
Anybody else care to comment? Go ahead, pick it apart!

Yeah I am having the same dilema... my other shot is at a 5.7 right now; perhaps my other candidate for the selective desaturation contest would have been better:

Thank you, graphicfunk, for leaving a comment on the photo itself. Since you were the first person to comment on my actual entry, and I know the approximate score you gave me (I really gotta get a life), that's pretty solid confirmation that this shot would have scored better. -sigh-
Anybody else care to comment? Please don't make me beg 'cause my monitor is hard to view from my knees.

Scalvert, the shot you posted here is terrific. 7-8 from me, depending on the caffiene in my system at the time.
Laurie, doctornick keeps looking at me. Make him stop.

OK, so only a handful of people were kind enough to comment on the shot (thanks to you few). I was hoping for more, but oh well. I didn't enter this photo because I suspected that a bunch of people would just assume that I colorized or enhanced the blue dragonfly, and then mark it down based upon that assumption. Take a look at the very first response on this thread. See?
I have noticed a number of people complaining about entries for the Selective Desaturation challenge being colorized or enhanced, and discounting their vote because of it. Don't be so quick to assume that an image is enhanced, folks... sometimes the real thing can look quite unreal.
The original and desaturated photos are posted below. The original was simply cropped, and an overall midpoint levels adjustment applied. No hue adjustment whatsoever.
