My brother hooked me up with a gmail invite last week. Webmail is kind of silly for me though since I POP3 and Outlook beat any web mail interface.

We have to use Outlook Express here at home, we have Outlook installed, but it doesn't work with our cable provider. -_- *shrugs* We all (my parents & I) use Yahoo! because we travel often enough that it's not worth it to have to have a laptop or something to get to our e-mail.

I was talking about the sign-in page which has zero adds. But obviously you signed in to a Yahoo e-mail account. I see one or two ads on some pages, mostly none, because of Hosts file. There are just spaces with the familiar "This page cannot be found notice" or an empty box with the word "advertisement" in it. |

*nods* I know you were, but Gordon wasn't. What's "Hosts file"? I usually only get that if I'm at school and the firewall stops ads from showing up.

Hosts file is a way to block ads using Windows own features instead of downloading an ad blocking program. Very easy and works great. You can read about it here: Blocking Unwanted Parasites with a Hosts File
I use a little freeware program called Hosts Editor from MyDesktopHelp.Com |

Got an e-mail asking me to bump this thread. And yes, it does work with Win XP, at least with my Home Ed. |

Its more hype than it is functionality. Just another marketing scheme.
But in a way I'm glad google decided to do it. At least it raises the bar on what 'free' stands for on the internet. I wonder how providers like hotmail (2mb limit) will react to this.
In the meantime, I'll be enjoying my more-than-enough 100mb webmail with Yahoo!

I'm a slave to the hype.
I just bought three invitations to Gmail on ebay for $3.
Someone please give me a favor and take my wallet away from me and slap me in the head with it...
Edit: mis-spell. (its 4 am here!)

Hotmail upped their base limit to 250Mb now.
The google interface is pretty clean, certainly more pleasing than yahoo or hotmail, which is in keeping with the rest of the google site.
