I'm shopping for a 28-70mm (no higher than 135 on the tele-zoom range) and am wondering if you have any suggestions. Thank You!!

what price range did you have in mind?

Can't afford L glass right now... So quality but not bank-busting quality.

I have been doing a whole lot of looking at this range too.

using //www.photozone.de/bindex2.html as my source, I found
that the Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 and Tokina 28-70 f/2.8 are good choices.
They are a little slow but sharp according to the reviews.
Canon 28-135 IS is another to consider, but it didn't get as good of
a review as the Tamron and Tokina

edit to fix link

The Canon 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5 USM is a good lens.

Not very wide though on a Rebel/10D with approx. 45 mm at one end -

True, but the buyer here is looking for something in that range.

Yeah? Have you used that one?

I have the canon 28-135 IS lens, and I think it is a great lens. Despite what the measurbators say, the vast majority of the comments made by users of this lens seem to agree. Take a look in the canon lens forums at dpreview. LINK Some go so far as to say it's as close to an "L" lens as you can get without actually being an "L" lens. I don't know if I would go that far, but I find it to be a quality lens.

Yes. I had it prior to the 24-70.

That's my main walking-around lens. It's a pretty good value for the money, and it has the same filter size as the 300D kit lens FWIW.
