Hey everyone!
I am having something of a dilemma and I hope you folks can help me out. I just bought my 300D from a local store. Because I live just across the state line, I paid for it there and they shipped to me so that I could save on sales tax. It was kind of an impulse purchase which is completely out of character for me but stuff happens. Now in looking at prices on the web, I̢۪m feeling a little stupid for paying more than I had to. The folks at the store are extremely nice and I love the camera so if I returned it, I̢۪d turn right around and order another one. So what should I do? Would it be unethical for me to return the camera? (Yes, it̢۪s in pristine condition and I have been extremely careful with packaging, etc.) What would ya̢۪ll do? I know it̢۪s ultimately my decision but I would like to hear your opinions. Thanks! |

I am a firm believe in local economics. When you say you live just across the state line, is it close enough that you would call them a neighbor? If so I would call it a premium for local support. You never know when you will need to talk to someone local about your purchase, add-ons, etc... Plus it keeps the money in YOUR community!

Particularly, if it's a shop that you're likely to frequent for accessories, glass, etc., it's a good way to establish a close relationship with the shop, and therefore, work your way to possible discounts and/or access to new gear.
Remember, at a local shop, your purchase price includes much more than the merchandise, it includes the beginnings of a repeat business relationship.

See if they have a price match guarantee. Many retailers will match the prices of other authorized dealers. You keep the camera, they keep the sale, and everyone goes home happy.
Otherwise, it's ultimately up to what your gut tells you. Unless it was a huge difference, I'd just keep the camera and be more careful in the future. My wife would return that sucker before the ink dried on the receipt. |

I agree...plus whatever hassle you must contend with to ship it back and reorder and WAIT, CAMERALESS, is not going to be worth what you save in the long run, unless you were completely ripped off to begin with. Keep the camera, and maybe they can cut you a deal on your next order for a lens or something for being a repeat customer! ;o)

You folks are echoing what I was thinking - the future relationship, local economy, etc. I mean, if it was Wal-Mart, I'd give Scalvert's wife a run for her money.
Anyway, I do appreciate you sharing your opinions with me. |

I agree with Lauriel.
I'd bite the bullet. It's happened to me in the past and I've always kicked myself about not shopping around the way my spouse would rather have me do.
That's just me...live and learn.
I'd just look at the camera and think about how much I love it in order to feel better!

i agree with everyone else, some items are well worth the extra money to buy from a local shop, especially an electronic device, it something happens you can go talk to some one face to face.
But small ticket items, like batteries, memory and so on are better to shop the net for the best price

Plus, there's always the fact that prices will continue to go down. Although you may have paid more than a web price, you probably still paid less than someone who bought it six months ago. :) And you will probably always find "a better price" someplace. I'd hang on to it and enjoy it. |

Yup, that's what I usually do (unless I'm feeling impulsive). Bought my lenses on the net for a heck of a lot less. I do SO love my dRebel! |
